Omega General Help / Re: rear brake pins
« on: 10 March 2019, 20:23:32 »
There's is all the info you need in a topic from 2014 titled brake pad retaining pins.
It depends whether you gave solid or vented discs.
From memory vented pins are 86mm long and the springs 56mm wide - solid discs pins and springs are obviously shorter / narrower.
The vented pins / springs are nigh on impossible to find these days,  and only from Vauxhall (If still available).
thanks mate ill pull a wheel and check :y

General Car Chat / Re: Jump Starting Modern Cars
« on: 08 March 2019, 12:15:52 »
Car: 2014 E-Class E220 CDI.

I parked it up towards end of Jan, as I could not force myself to drive it any more. It's been left on a driveway since, it's going to be used again by MotherT.

Can I jump it as I would an Omega? (if it fails to start?)

Anything special I should do?  :-\
you can but you need surge prorection jump leads as the surge in current may damge the ecus, :y

guess also being the parts car is a later car may also have an effect looks like ill be pulling the loom from the donor car :y

Whatever for? It's a massive amount of work to remove the entire wiring loom from a modern car, let alone replace it.
not compared to my audi a4 the omega one is a walk in the park ;D

You are removing the whole loom? Behind the dash, up the roof pillars, everything into the boot etc? That's fitted before the interior? Getting the whole thing out of something old and simple like a Capri is quarter the time it takes to break the whole car and I need about 5 hours to do that. How are you doing a complex car like an Omega so quickly, or had you already started on the interior? I salvaged the entire loom from a MGTF(the intention was to upspec an earlier car, and it all had to be usable with no damaged wires or connectors) late last year, and that took a couple of hours once we'd dropped the rear subframe
it took me around an hour or so to remove the complete interior including the headliner. the loom is in 3 sections the dash in know out that took me around 20 minutes or so going to finish the rest over the weekend, iam used to working on cars been doing it for the last nearlt 35 years or so ive just finished doing a full restoration on a mk3 tina, and ive stripped and rebuilt lots of cars in my time to name a few a few rover sd1s a nissan 300zx t/t and a mitsubishi gto and a few more beside so an omega is a walk in the park. :y

What age is your donor car?  If it has the later style levelling sensors, I might do a midnight run when you aint looking :D
its a 51 plate mate, it a shame but the chassis whare the piman arm bolts to is rusted, if you want any bits you are more than welcome to get them :y

As long as both are saloons it will be fine :y

Cheers, I thought they were all the same model years etc. I will get one ordered and see what turns up!!!
If you can get one, get a facelift 3.0 and the tailpipes should match your bumper ;) Pre facelift are shorter, so are the exhaust tips. Not a big deal as trims will overcome any discrepancy :y
ive got a pre face lift on on mine and sits just nicely,
