Compression test will only show failures in fire rings - almost unheard of on V6, so won't achieve a lot - especially if it's already running on all 6...

And, assuming its the 2.6.....it has a metal multilayer headgasket arrangement so its even less likely to suffer fire ring failure.

As said, get the temp gauge sorted (probably not connected after the oil cooler change) and go from there.

where would i find that wire ?

Back of the engine on the coolant bridge.....you can just get at it with the scuttle cover removed
