M< friend has got a top specdiesel Auris.
And the head gasket went at 90 000 km, or around 55 000 miles.
Looks like toyota is really going downhill with their quality(probably running would be a better expression)

My Corolla Verso 1.8 had 5 gearboxes and a short engine in 110,000 miles. Not what I expected to be honest.

you would only buy one for reliability, not its looks, or driving experience. No point getting one now!

My uncle has an Avensis verso.
Big car, pretty ugly but practical and extremly reliable.
It seems when Toyota got the looks it lost reliability

They seem to be hitting a 'Mercedes' patch where they have built up a long reputation for reliability and quality but risk throwing it all away with falling standards.

Mercedes is only now starting to recover, ask anyone who had a mid to late 90's E Class.

And not just the E class.
My cousin had tweo very old Skodas, one moskvich (something like an old lada) an old Vectra (Cavalier in Uk I beilieve) and never had a single problem with the cars.
After them he got a C 220 diesel which was more in garage being repaired than it was on the road

I had an Auris as a hire car in Finland. I quite liked it tbh. Although the interior was a bit weird.

I used to have them all the time as courtesy cars as I refused to drive 200+ miles a day in a Yaris. Was usually a high spec diesel.

Was quite a good motor but its meant to be in the Golf bracket, and that interior, although wierd, was nowhere near Golf quality.

I actually made a point of showing people the handbrake lever, just because it was SO cheap and nasty!!!!!

The handbrake did make me laugh. My friends who i was with always thought i was driving with it on, because it was raised up so high - even in the lowered position.

Actually I alway joked that my friend is harmless to any girl he drives on the front seat.
No way he could jump on her without fearing for his manhood cause of that handbrake 
And the rest of the plastic feels so cheap that evem Fiat pandas' is nice (weel the part where it has plastic)
