Title: Is there an online Vx spares catalogue?
Post by: terry paget on 03 October 2020, 10:43:44
My local Vx dealer having closed, I now need a new way of buying Vx spare parts. When I last sought a spare part, my local dealer brought to his PC screen a parts list. Is that parts list open to all, including me? i

Just how many parts do you actually need to buy from Vauxhall? In the 8 years I owned my Omega it got four: crank sensor, radiator top hose, oil filter adapter and some trim clips. In every case, the counterman turned his screen around so I could show him exactly what I wanted. Over all the years, and 1/4 million miles I owned Capris, I only ever bought two genuine Ford parts: rear anti-rollbar bushes and a front panel.

Likewise and nowadays everything (and I mean virtually everything!) I ever need I buy from eBay. I know a few people don't like eBay but I find everything I want does pop up eventually for rare stuff and everyday stuff is always there. It seems my entire house and car parts have come from eBay over the years.
. Cannot remember the last time I went into a diy shop or car shop for stuff.
That's my answer anyway. No offence intended to anyone else !

Not so many, but running 6 Vauxhalls, all over 12 years old, little things, like you describe, are needed occasionally. My local dealer stores manager would turn his parts screen so that I could see it, we would find the part I needed, and he would get it for me. But he has just closed down, and the my nearest Vx dealer is now 10 miles away. I should like to find the part number, then ring a main dealer with it to order the part.

10 miles is about the distance I am from a parts department.

One snag about you giving them the part number is that if the part is wrong, it's your fault! You need to be using the current  Vauxhall parts catalogue for this to be effective.

10 miles is no great shakes ???

A lot of parts places don't like taking part numbers from customers. Not sure why as anyone who is interested enough to research the part number is likely to know exactly what they need... that said, if the part supplied is wrong then that's on you, although this seems to also apply to parts that they supply based on what you ask them for... ie if you ask for an Oojamiflip and they sell you a Doobryfirkin then that's some how your problem not theirs...  ::) ???

Currently having this debate with one of my local Mercedes dealers as they don't seem to be willing or able to cross reference part numbers that may or may not be out of date, although it doesn't help that they don't have a parts counter in the traditional sense of the word.

Batflu doesn't help any as it's just another excuse for companies not to bother :-X

I find that the more you use a VX parts department, or any other supplier of aftermarket parts, the more obliging they are, and the better discount you get. I usually ring them up, speak to my usual parts chap, and as they invariably don't now stock parts other than routine service items, he rings me when its in and I collect when convenient. If there is any doubt about the actual part of fitment, he orders both and the one that isn't required he returns. It also has the benefit of him doing a more comprehensive search for parts instead of the CBA attitude some have if you are not a regular customer.
Within a 10 mile radius from me, there are two Vauxhall dealerships - one part of a multifranchise group; the other an independent dealership, both of which are very helpful, although the independent is more of a personal service of the two. The nearest other dealerships are 12 miles away and 25 miles away. If you travel around whether that be for work or otherwise, I try to combine the collection of parts with another unrelated journey.

Anyone who has had to supply the public, instead of professionals, with parts will have learnt the hard way: they don't know what they need, they certainly don't know what it's called, they won't understand why a tiny part costs £37.89 and isn't in stock, and they absolutely do NOT want to pay for it. These are just some of the reasons why many dealer chains have separated their parts departments from showrooms.....

I didn't mean 10 miles to seem a lot, as it isn't really. And I live in a town of 1/4million people.

My thanks to LCO112G, reply#4, his suggestion that https://vauxhall.7zap.com/en/car/ is such an online parts list system seems good. However, trying to find the parts I currently seek for my Vectra-C heater makes it clear to me that I need help to find the part numbers, and the option of returning incorrect parts. I recall the speed Peter Kuzemka found the pipes to the heater showing the top hat washers on his screen, apparently only available with the pipes.

You have answered you own question, finding parts isn't as easy as you think. As people have already said you order the wrong part is yours.

If you are really stuck PM your vehicle details, Chassis No etc and what parts you want and ill see if i can track them down
