Omega General Help / Working on a '01 3.0 manual
« on: 30 November 2011, 20:00:14 »
So, as prolly you'd read in another topic, i bought this car as a toy / tow car.

I'm gonna prepare it for trackdays following the "low cost" religion, and i'm gonna need help on that for sur, i dismantled and rebuilt quite a lot of Nissan S Chassises and E30 / E34 / E46 / E39 bimmers, but i have no experience on GM engines.

I already took out good part of the interior, incredible how much the rear seats do weigh.
I ordered a SPAX coilover kit, and i'm searching on an LSD, help on that would be appreciated, otherwise if i don't find one for kinda cheap i'm gonna weld it.

I took out the original filter box and opened the lower part creating a "spoon" as we use to do on Nissans, that's even better than cone filters or carbon hi priced low engineered airboxes, and i did put a K&N filter innit.
I did put a new MAF on it, as the old one was kinda old and car felt numb revving in neutral.
Car now feels more reactive, definitely accelerates better at high RPMs, noise is very nice but not loud, as i did only open one of the 4 faces of the airbox, the one facing front, and i did put a duct, replacing the original, that sends fresh air behind the right front light.
Incredible is, how BAD it got the fuel consumption, have some doubts about the MAF working good, even if car feels lot better now it's kinda a big price to pay, i lost something like 2 liters every 100kms, not a cheap thing!

Next plans are to remove EGR, fit a couple of sport kats and remove central silencers.

Doubts are about wich errors will come out after these modify, and if they will put the car in any "recovery" mode that will penalise the power output.

Thanks by now, gonna need loads of help in that project.

General Car Chat / The silver hearse (fun car project)

So, finally i got this 2001 Omega estate, 3.0cc, mechanically in good condition, average conditions inside and outside, good leather, poor doorcards, a couple of scratches outside etc.

Plan is to use it as a daily through the winter and start with works for having fun next year, using it as a driftcar.

First of all, i'm tryng to save as much wheight as possible, without using carbon / resin parts and keeping the glasses.
Rear seats and tonneau cover are gone, same thing for rear half carpet, noise assorbing stuff.
Armrest is gone, need room to fit an hydraulic e-brake.
Front seats are going to be replaced with Porsche 914 ones, re-leathered, have to choose the color.
Problem 1: Will the airbag light turn on when i emove the original seats? They have Airbags in them so...
Doorcards are in poor conditions, so i'm thinkin about replacing them with resin doorcards if anyone produces it, or with marine wood panels, as i will do for all the real part, to suit it to fit a go-kart, a downhill bike, my 35kg Australian Shepherd.
I'm gonna keep the original steering wheel or fitting a smaller one WITH airbag, don't wanna have problems with police as i'll use it to go to work and to tow my trailer with proper racecars on.
Other problem that worries me will be removing catalitic converters and fitting sport ones, will the engine check light turn on?
Another fast question, what's the code of the diff?
Code S45 right?

As an example this one:

After more or less an year i subscribed that forum... i finally got an Omega.

'01 3.0 estate, 170t km, manual.

Drinks petrol like a drunken Russian hooker drinks vodka, but it's nice to drive, has winter tires on 15 steelies, paid it few euros, has a lot of space and has a tow hook.

Issues to solve:

Dampers are blown, no probs, got a coilover kit from SPAX.
Diff isn't the rignt one, gonna find an LSD or weld the original one.
E-brake isn't working, gonna fit an hydraulic one.
Don't have summer rims, not a big problem, there's just the choice.
ALL FOUR doorcards look like shit, gummy stuff that covers panels is falling off / getting sticky, dunno if replace 'em with marine wood panels cutted to fit the door (as i am doing the rear half of the car, i already removed rear seats and gonna saw a piece of light wood on purpose, i have to put a kart / downhill MTB / 35kgs dog on it)

Nice original radio btw, Bose equipped, gonna keep it, useful during trips to drifting events or when i use it normally.

As you can guess that's not gonna be a familiy car but a toy / tow / drift car.

So, that's my first question.

I still have not retired the car, but i know it has a stock satnav with German maps on, and i live in Italy and i love my Tom Tom cos' i can update it weekly with Speed Cameras, new roads etc.

Can i use the stock screen with a reverse wiew camera like the ones you find for beer money on ebay?

That would be very useful for parking, for towing so i can always take a look at the trailer, and for driving when i have my dog in the rear zone, and it often covers the central mirror.

How could i make them work togheder?

Fitting of the camera is very easy, it's the connection with the screen that scares me.

Newbie Welcome Area / Hi there
« on: 08 April 2010, 11:33:29 »
I' Mauri from Italy, we do not have an Omega Owner forum or club here in banana republic, so i submitted here.

I owe a shop in northern Italy, we do sell motorsport equipment and all stuff about motorsport, we organize events, driving courses, find particular and race cars for customers etc, when i have time and sponsors i do race in various championships, in 2006 / 2007 i raced with british team Gr Asia in WTCC on a Seat Leon, those days is harder to find such big sponsors.

I'm buyng an Omega B Caravan 2.5TD (131cv, M51 engine) in the next days from Germany because i need a "new" tow car for my racecar trailer and the Omega has the best quality/tow capcity/price ratio.

I think i'gonna find some useful issues there, but honestly i hope to need as less as possible to make questions, i just hope it will do its work and last long.

 :)

Cheers!
