Fancy led tail lights? Me too!
« on: 21 September 2009, 20:15:14 »

I am fancy led tail lights, unfortunately I don't like lexus style lights and I'm thinking of an original look tail lights with led. Similar to these:

or these  :D

Does anyone know of any website with custom tail lights or leds which I could eventually custom build tail lights myself like they did with calibra?

Do you like the Omega A6  ;)

I agree with you. It doesn't look nice at all, but if I ever will try to build something like this I want to do it properly, something like the ones from Audi A6 Avant.
I really like A6 led tail lights.

If you want LED lights, then just buy the LED replacements for the standard filament lamps you currently have.
That way you'll get all the benefits of LED, but without the headache of it looking like a spotty 17 year old chav owned the car before you.

Only a lot of the LED cheapie shite available is, err, cheap, and about as reliable as a filament

Guess that depends on where you buy it from.

I'll put my head above the parapet ......   ::)
I think he's made a good job of the calibre led's, a better result than Audi have made of the back of the A6.  ;)  ;)  ;)

Untill the likes of BMW started to use led's at the back of their cars, I always thought the benefits of them sounded dubious, but after seeing them, they react so much faster than an ordinary filament lamp.
VW's efforts at led's results in indicators that sit inside round brake/tail lights which are difficult to see properly during the day especially if you are not directly behind the car.

Never had a problem seeing/interpreting them myself, but you should bear in mind that LED's are directional (ie, you only see them at full brightness when directly in front of them).

I lot of VAGs have difficult to see indicators, as the brakelights overwhelm them.  How the hell that ever got approved I'll never know

Why am I not surprised!  ::)

But as I said & you confirmed, unless you're directly behind, they're not always obvious.
And as Jamie says, the brake light/indicator could be better designed.

The reason I have never had a problem with them is because I know what they look like when you are anything other than directly behind them and can compensate accordingly.

It's not a special skill, most drivers out there are compensating for something or other every time they get behind the wheel.

I thought I only noticed this. There are more cars with "invisible" indicators, including japanese cars... and I was thinking the same, how that got approved...
