Some of you may remember I posted about the recent passing of my father.

I have now been assigned the duty of selling his car.
I will be doing the usual, cleaning, polishing, and giving it an inspection etc..

Mot'd it today too, passed 1st time.

However, I will be posting it on ebay as soon as I have it ready.

My question is this, due to the projected value of the car, I am unsure how to accept payment.

Any traders or anyone who has sold a car on ebay got any advice on the best way to proceed or accept payment?

I have sold cheaper cars before, but nothing of this value. So accepting cash was ok.

I will probably list on autotrader too, but was gonna try ebay first.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

bankers draught, paypal or cheque (keep car and V5) untill cheque has cleared, or good old  cash but have one of those forery marker pens mate and check it all

I buy and sell cars, and personally I'd avoid ebay at all costs. Stick with autotrader, costs me £33 to list two weeks on the internet and large ad in magazine. If you don't mind me asking...how much is the projected value? £8000 or more?

As said, autotrader and e-bay only as a very last resort....

Cash folds nicely into the pocket and has a reassuring feel, as opposed to those cheque/bankers draft things....

If a genuine buyer, he/she will be able to get the cash - either via their bankers draft or their personal/loan cheque at their nearest bank, I've found.

I would be expecting around £5500.

I have had a gander on autotrader and all the traders seem to be £5800 to £7000.

If anyone could give me an approx valuation, here are the car details.

54 plate Toyota Avensis 2.0vvt-i, T3-x,  manual.
5dr in Silver. (I'd call it a champagne colour) tbh.
It has had 2 owners, has some service history.
Car just clocked 39k today on the way back from the mot station.

Mot'd today, tax end nov.

There is a minor scuff on both front and rear bumpers, but I wouldn't say any major damage.

As I said earlier any advice would be very helpful and appreciated.

Normally I wouldn't be so uncertain about selling a car, but given it was my dad's i'm still a little fuzzy.

you could always advertise it on pistonheads ? it is free and you can compare the car to others for sale on the site ,have a look its called pistonheads .com got to be worth a look .good look

what ever you do don't use auto trader mate there are a lot of scamers on there got done myself ..

£100 deposit at the end of the auction, balance to be paid on collection.

This is at the bottom of all my ebay cars adds.

Always cash payment before buyer drives it away.
If they can't pay that way then chances are they ain't got the money.
Yep try Pistonheads as mentioned or local press, ebay as a last resort. Price it a little more than you want, then you can let them haggle you a bit for a better deal. Always worked with me.

what ever you do don't use auto trader mate there are a lot of scamers on there got done myself ..

How can you get scammed on Autotrader. Someone comes to see your car, they like it, they give you cash, you count and check cash to make sure it not fake, you fill out V5C and send it off the buyer drives away, simples.

If you have a couple of big mates, ask them round when payment happens, and get them to follow you down the bank. Ensure the buyer knows you are straight off to bank, just so they aren't tempted to come back with baseball bats.
