As we have building work going on just wondered about replacing some ethernet cable which runs 12 m down one side of the house on an external wall. Goes from router to ethernet switch where it then feeds tv, eetv, xbox and hive. is there any point in using cat6 in this circumstance please?

Thanks Guys - reassuring that it is about right. Tidied up a few other things on top of this so hopefully good for a few more years yet.

Crept up on my daughter a bit but her Focus now 10 years old she is advised at service of scheduled change - was a bit surprised at even independent cost of change at £400 + but looking around - the fact that water pump is changed as well goes a little way to explain.

When Omega belt changed at a dealer was about £260 to £300 but that was a few years ago.

Seems to have been 4 man hours labour to do the Focus job .

Thanks Dave - the have revised quote down to £654 with our builder digging the trench. So have submitted order on the basis. At one stage they were insisting on moving meter but that has now been withdrawn. Suspect there will be more to come on this before we are done. Footings trench is still exposed so outside face maybe an option.

We are having an extension built and I strongly suspected that the service pipes may go through the area of the extension. Tried to get drawings etc from the utilities but no luck so we had to get on with it by blend of JCB and hand digging. Sure enough - sod's law the various pipes make a right turn across the garden into my drive through area of the extension.

For a 12 metre stretch of gas main diversion in soft ground SGN require £1600!!! We are currently in negation for  price reduction with my builder digging the trench . The electric guys turned up with 2 large vans and there own jcb but when they got down to it used their common sense and adapted to the outside of the trench we used for the footings.

Another one down to experience I suppose.

I have a collection of old phones going back some years. One is a Nokia 8800 Arte. Steve's thread encouraged me to check it out as it was a "Designer Phone" in its day. Prices higher now than they were 13 years ago - price range up to £1000+ on ebay tonight. No quote on Music Magpie.

As discussed on PM, try NOW TV stick:

https://www.nowtv.com/stick-bundles

Same content as Sky, no contract, although internet only delivery.

Thanks Mark - will keep an eye out for deals - but got to the age now that the free stuff is actually enough plus Netflix which has a reasonable amount of films etc plus stuff for the grandkids. Add Netflix to EETV cost thus making £45 a month including Fibre and Calls which is acceptable.

2 years ago after a long boring negotiation I agreed a deal with Sky with which I was very happy and I said at the time if you try this horse trading again I will just leave.

So my deal is set to go from £82.50 to £150. Immediately cancelled everything for 31 days hence. They then come back with £120 but I have now made my decision.

Shame because I like the Sky system but do not need to pay a premium for this.

I will go to EETV at £38 all in including 20gb monthly data boost (for mobile phone) as this will meet our needs and I already have EETV with fibre unlimited in another property.

My wife had a 1.9 cdti Signum Elite 2007 from almost new to 85000 miles in 5 years. Problems were the clutch damper which is a 2 part thing. We had 2 of these under warranty. It had spring and shock absorber issues (like Vectra) but was a great car.

Took the Phaeton through the now completed section of smart motorway on M6 J19 to J18. Getting there. Will make a big difference when completed. Rest of journey down to M6 Toll not bad today even if restricted to 50mph.

Your case would be under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 which replaced, along with two others, the Sales of Goods Act 1979.

As you purchased and had fitted the new pulley in 2016, this is the Act you claim under as, your case would be, the part or installation was not of satisfactory quality and failed well beyond what can be considered as a reasonable period of time.  The "2 year guarantee / warranty" has no affect on your claim under the terms of the Consumer Rights Act.  Your small claims court action must be against the immediate original supplier, the dealer, and not against the manufacturer. They can make their own claim against VW if they so wish;)

Thanks Lizzie.

Crankshaft pulley failing in what way ?
is it the rubber de-laminating between inner and outer metal component ?
as in harmonic damper pulley failure ?
is it a well documented fail on the internet (other cases of the same component repeatedly failing ?)
I had to pay for an independent motor vehicle engineers report for the claim against the clutch cowboys, which i claimed back  .

yes spot on - the Camberley repair states "Vibration damper sheered".

Being a completely different dealer group I very much doubt that Martin's will be either interested in or be legally obliged to be paying out to rectify a defective part which has failed out of warranty, especially when fitted by another dealer group.

You could try the 'long standing customer looking to be changing vehicle soon' card, but don't hold your breath...

The Sale of Goods Act requires that items and services provided are of satisfactory quality and work for a suitable period - which can be up to 6yrs iirc. Warranties don't come into it, and the garage can't contract out of the Act.

Get a report, sue the first dealer for your costs. Simples  :y

Yes it is this 6 year Sale of Goods I am operating under Already put it to Inchcape but they are saying I need to prove inherent defect

Maybe look at getting an Independent Technical Report....

https://www.themotorombudsman.org/consumers/independent-vehicle-reports

It will cost you, but if you're going this far then doubtless it will end up in some form of court anyway, so just claim back the cost.  :y

Thanks - might give them a call but hope they do not want £199 + VAT. The dispute is only £400+ but it was the principle of it. There is no issue at all with Martins Camberley - in fact they probably did the repair with a bit of discount.
