Its the cl, in black, he said it had some special merc wheels as well, but by that time I was in tears!!!! not really good for him , he works hard and has a lot of responsibility with his job. he has to take his boat out of the water soon to do the anti fouling, so I am glad I am not to close to have to help with that job.

Yep would love to go but health says otherwise. and does he need dad to spoill his fun, he is still single, says he is not grown up enough to take on a wife and likes his toys to much, he been over there 12 years now, worked hard had a bit of luck with some properties, so good luck to him.
When he went over he took with him one rucksack and a 12' surf board, thinking he would be back in about a year, but decided he liked it so much we sold his house and car and he carried on from that point. Still miss him though!!

General Car Chat / Son has just upset me??

My son called me today, he lives in New Zealand so we do not see him often, he has just bought himself a merc 500 coupe with a 5ltr v8 in it. fuel is a bit cheaper over there  so he can enjoy it. Poor old dad has a 4 pot omega. (had a few v8's in my younger days).
He seems to be having a good life, he lives on his yacht moored in a marina and is able to walk to work, so good for him.

I have had many cars over the years but the one I  miss the most is the sunbeam tiger 4.2, looked sedate but would go like hell without trying.
Had a 3ltr ford granada coupe which was very nice, it was a company car and I did 120k in that in two years never let me down, there were others that I liked but  the Tiger I will never forget, I swapped it for an E Type but that was not as good.

For me it was the Princess wedge shaped thing, was a company car when they first came out, going down a bumpy roed the suspension sounded like a hammer on the floor going mad , dreadfull car glad when it went.

Had one of these for many years, had very little trouble with it, we towed the caravan all over France with it, when towing it would give about 17 mpg even if driven hard down the auto route, around town it was a bit heavy 14mpg, but a great vehicle.

I wish i had never parted with it, still see it about locally, the present owner loves it. It was comfortable, and we always felt safe in it, it would go well for a big heavy vehicle, never had a major issue with it only running repairs like tyres and exhaust, and parts are cheap.

Many years ago I had an american ford chateau, which looked like a transit van with windows, the big difference was that it had an eight litre engine, it was fitted with an auto box which made it wonderfull at the traffic lights, we had many a laugh with that vehicle, did'nt like the fuel consumption much though, 8mpg. The looks on faces as that went away was tremendous.

Never mind it was on my business then so that helped, the speedo only read up to 85mph, but to see it go past that and start to go round the face again was good.

Happy memory's of years gone by.

I also am one of the older drivers, I have to have a DVLA eye test every three years due to an illness, this gives them the power to revoke my licence if I fail it, not a nice position to be in I assure you, yet i have eye tests every six months as part of the monitoring of my illness by the hospital anyway, but DVLA will not accept those results and it is a much better examination I get then.

Please do not put all older people in the same scope, i still consider my driving to be good, but i was taught how to drive properly when i was a young pc, and have driven most things in many different parts of the world since.

Young drivers cause more accidents than older drivers and are just as likely to drive off without informing anyone, hence the high insurance premiums.

sorry to have to get on my high horse but felt that I had to defend the more mature driver.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live in south lincs, and yes it is a 2.2, the garage I use has been very good and has always been more than helpfull, they have done many a small job at no charge so I do not have a problem with them.
The days when I could pull a car apart have now passed I am sorry to say, I used to enjoy working on cars, but to many ailments these days, I am more worn out than the omega.
Still enjoy the caravan and a bit of fishing so can't complain to much, and I enjoy this forum very helpfull and does not have to many bad mouthers, some of the caravan forums are bad, you are afraid to put a post on them for the response you may get. I have been driving for 52 years and caravaning for about 35, so I do have a little experience in both.
Many thanks for the help and advice, I will pass it on to the garage regarding the coil pack.

« on: 29 December 2011, 12:11:43 »
I have grown to like the omega over the past three years, it rides well, now pulls the caravan fairly well and is not bad on fuel for a big lump, BUT it has been an expensive experience, Apart from service and tyres wich are wear and tear (including an exhaust) it has had, mass air flow sensor, lambda sensor, camshaft sensor, new cam belt, new brake discs and pads new rear springs and shocks, I had spring assistors fitted as well to help with towing, new battery and problems with the power sounder. It is now missing on one cyclinder on start up, this clears after a while but I wonder if the coil pack is getting ready to die. It goes in for service next wednesday so fingers crossed it may only be a plug.
But i still do like the car, it has just turned 84K, which is not a lot on a 03 car, as I am an old git I do not want to spend more money on another car at present, and I do believe in better the devil you know.(or think you do)

For me it would have to be my Sunbeam Tiger 4.2, it was incredible, 125mph at 4500revs, had a few over the years that I can think of all v8's though.   A few sd1 the best being a Vanded Plas. three  Range Rovers, e type jag(that was a six cyclinder) and a pontiac trans-am.
Wish i could aford to run them these days, plus a few would be worth a bob or to.

Old memories from an old git.

General Car Chat / Tractor Drivers
« on: 11 November 2011, 16:11:04 »
I am refering to the agricultural Type of tractor!!! Had to stand the old girl on her front bumper today when a tractor with a 40ft trailer behind it decided not to stop when it joined the main a17, but came straight out of the side road onto the main road in front of me, when I looked over at him he just stuck his fingers up at me as was gone.
as I understand it these drivers do not have any special training or licence because it is an agricultural vehicle despite it being as big as an artic who's driver would have to have had a special test, we do suffer from these a bit in this part of the country but this one was one of the closest encounters I have had, had the road been wet I would have gone under the trailer I am sure.
Good job the old girl is in good order as she stopped straight and true in good time.

General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?
« on: 04 November 2011, 15:36:27 »
Had the dreaded MOT today, sailed through no problems, no advisory's, first time since I have owned the car (Three Years) its not cost me money, service time is in January not done many miles this 5K, but it will still go in.

So now got the towing problems fixed maybe I can have a period without putting my hand in the pocket (said he with hope).

Thanks to all, we use the fridge on the move as we load it up before we set off, the battery charging is good as the van is in store and if it is left for awhile it drops a little, we take it off in the winter.

I will set about getting the bits this weekend. Once again many thanks.
