Hmmm, decisions, decisions
« on: 17 December 2019, 20:01:30 »

Its nearly Christmas, so as normal, the dishwasher has decided to get grumpy, and pop the RCD on cycles that need to heat water.

So, do I order a heater, and wait for it to arrive in a few days, then fit.  Or just buy a bloody new one for delivery on Thurs.  Cant remember how old this one is TBH, probably 3 or 4 years...

I am making an assumption it is the heater, suppose it could be the wash motor or the redirector motor thing breaking down with heat I suppose  :-\

I wouldn't buy a dishwasher from there.  Mind you, I'd like to just walk in Currys and walk out with one, but its never that easy, despite the salepersons always claiming they have everything in this store...   ...until you pay for it, then they ask when you want it delivered. Apparently "right here, right now" is not possible.

Its a 12, possibly 14, place dishwasher. No idea why we create so much.  But then she's used 3 saucepans tonight, so that will half fill the bottom of it if I was able to use it ;D

Be aware that some of AO goods are specific to them (slightly different model numbers), and sometimes using slightly different components. No idea if that impacts reliability/performance, but I know it makes getting spares trickier.  No need to ask how I know that ;D

But if you treat it as a throw away item, its a non issue, assuming it doesn't lower reliability/performance.

I've had a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge freezer and built in oven from them. Only washing machine was a let down and that was my fault for choosing a hotpoint.

I have an inherited 25 year old Indesit and it's still going strong!  :y

The soap dispenser doesn't work any more however, so I chuck a tablet in the cutlery box so that's alright and the motor stuck once, but a good thump with a hammer sorted that!  ;D

It is curious how issues with delivery’s, things not working frequently and going through four tyres and discs and pads every week does only happen to eBoy. The only common denominator for all these issues that I can see is, err, eBoy  ;D

On a similar note, the chest freezer swmbo bought in 1984 has apparently finally cried enough. I went out to the shed to retrieve a loaf from it last night and noticed it was silent, and the red alarm light was lit.
Initially this was great news to me as I hate the thing with a passion. I even left out in the elements one winter, about 15 years ago, but the fickin fired into life as soon as it was plugged in again.
However, swmbo is insistent she wants another chest type freezer at least as big as the old one. Theres only the two of us and we already have one of those tall, all in one fridge freezers in the kitchen, but apparently that is nowhere near big enough !

When I refitted our new kitchen 3 years ago decided to include a dishwasher as for the past 36 years of marriage/2 kids and plenty of dirty dishes never really saw the point in them.

SWTSMBO put her foot down and insisted we have a dishwasher in the new layout so being a good guy I obliged.

Went online and searched all options and eventually decided on a Neff built in 14 place model.Did the usual compare costs etc and after finding John Lewis would price match bought from them with free delivery and 5 year warranty.

Have to be honest its quite simply the best kitchen aide we have ever had and works a treat.Quite /offers plenty of options up to a 2.5 hour 70 degree chef wash which brings thinks back to almost new.Only slight gripe is after a while tumbler glasses get marked and look like those from the pub,but are cheap enough to just buy a new pack.

Buy a new one is my advise as they aren't wildly expensive and save the grief of repairing something that might just pack up again soon .

You sound like my parents - although it was my Dad who wanted one, not my Mum.. she decreed it would "Only be used at Christmas".

They've had two, now (because they moved house and put one in the second house, too) and it gets used every day ;D ;D

No delivery today, so checked the tracking, which claimed it was handed to the resident at 9pm.  Like f it was.

Amazon were trying to insist I waited a day or 2 more, but eventually agreed to send another.

Two in our household. We have a slimline dishwasher which is run at least once a day. Sometimes twice. Microwave meals and takeaways are a rarity in our house, so that might be an excuse. Don't know what TB,s excuse is though. I believe he lives on takeaway curry.
Swmbo also does quite a lot of home cooking / baking type of stuff, which can produce a lot of dirty dishes etc.
Its well worth it though for the quiches, cheesecakes etc. etc.

Talking of delivery issues, Amazon Prime disgraced themselves again yesterday. So need to chase that up with them when I get home, unless they deliver today

Amazon Market place have let me down again. On my successessful low carb diet 10kg (22lb) so far & two notches on my belt, I've been eating alot of low carb low sugar blueberries, 250gm at £2.29 a pack. 5 of those a week is expensive, so I've bought 4 blueberry plants, large planters & trays for my large patio. Each pot requires ~30L of high acid peat, I ordered 2x 60L bags. Only one was delivered & have contacted them for the outstanding item and awaiting delivery. :( The delivery will involve Yodel so I won't be holding my breath. ???

I have lots more hassle off Amazon Marketplace compared to Eboy ebay, especially for non-existent 2nd hand books, which have just been misterely return to them, after I've checked that my local PO depot that have received nothing! >:(

Its well worth it though for the quiches, cheesecakes etc. etc.

When can I move in?  ;D

Amazon Prime let me down for the first time in (probably) several thousand deliveries this week .. naturally it was my own Christmas present that has failed to arrive :( Since it was a Marketplace order (my fault, I normally avoid those!) I got a refund. Which doesn't get me my present.. Oh well! Done the logical thing and ordered the same thing direct from Mao's Dollarama for £100 less and I'll wait the wait.

Don't know what TB,s excuse is though. I believe he lives on takeaway curry.
not really, takeaways have a place if you're late back, or don't have time to cook. Well, I don't cook, so the missus not having time ;D.  If I want (non homecooked) curry, I prefer to sit down in a restaurant :).

Mrs TB does seem to use lots of "stuff" when cooking. When she bakes - usually for work McMillan days etc, and rarely for me - the poor dishwasher will be non stop for days ;D. Same with a Sunday Roast, which we don't have every week.

So in reality, if it lasts 2 or 3 years then its done thousands and thousands of cycles.

New part still not arrived, obviously.

Nor has the missing and now replaced Amazon parcel, but that can be up to 9pm before the courier throws that in the river because they are too busy.

Our electrickery went off at around 3.30am this morning. I know this because the reserve battery in the mains powered smoke alarm outside the bedroom is obviously low and the bloody thing kept beeping at 30 second intervals all night.
I finally gave in and got up investigate at 0715 and found it had tripped out. I went out to the shed and unplugged the old freezer which started playing up a couple of days ago and all was restored to normal.
Now need to buy a new freezer in the so called January sales. The old one has been faultless since 1984, so weve had our moneys worth out of it.

Yes, it is interesting how long freezers can last for.  We had one that lasted 30 years, and even then it was still working fine but as the cabinet was showing signs of be 30 years in a garage it was decided to replace it when we moved house 8) 8) ;)

Our current Fridge Freezer we bought when we moved here in 2001. It works fine.  Except that when the dishwasher popped the trip on Tues, and it was off for an hour, the freezer temp rose by 5C.  When the power was off for about 8hrs during the garage thing, it completely defrosted.

So although it works, the seals are clearly tired.

Which means it will be using a lot more power than a modern one.

Given that his dishwasher gets run 3 times a day, do you think he gives a shit?  ;D

Part arrived and fitted on Friday afternoon.

Then down to Currys Friday evening to buy a new dishwasher...   ...the cheapest, crappiest thing that they actually had there ready for me to take away.  Then over to KFC for an emergency intake of the Colonels secret recipe, only for that to be stone cold.  I have enough trouble with the fast digestion rate of KFC without it being cold ;D

Last time I went there they didn't even get my order right despite taking about 45 minutes to think about it.

Still, at least it didn't result in me spending the evening on the potty. :-X

Nope quite the opposite. They managed this level of incompetence in the middle of nowhere in the fens - on the Ely bypass, IIRC. ::)

Well, it is nearly Narfuk, so you probably would have got fried turkey....   ...had the yocals been bright enough to serve you.

I think I know the KFC you mean - the one on the A10 in the retail park?  That's within 20 mins of Mum, so plenty of time for me to get to hers before the inevitable....
