Gearbox ecu has detected a fault.  You really want to get this sorted before any (further?) damage occurs.

Hi, Had gearbox oil and solidnoid replaced and problem still exists
When accelerating in sport button mode, car will move into gears until the top gear is about to activate at appox 115mph. The management light comes up and its like the same condition as if the coil pack is faulty. The two coil packs have already been changed. If I stop and turn off ignition the fault clears and drive away as normal.
Any views or ideas would be welcome

Have you had the codes read?

As DG above has said - You need the codes from the TCM.  Without them, you are pissing into the wind.

Out of curiosity though;

What happens if you do the same run WITHOUT sport mode enabled?

If you are just doing a very long WOT run, Sport Mode will make absolutely no difference to performance at all.

Have had Bank 2 sensor changed ( error code P0403), and tried the sports button again. same issue again with top gear not being reached and then engine management light lights up. turn car off restart and problem cleared. 1 min later bank 2 sensor comes back again

P0403 is EGR fault.

What light are you ACTUALLY seeing?   ::)

You are aware, I hope, that top gear will not be engaged when in Sport mode (until you are about 130MPH)

Do you mean 0430? The sensor isn't the issue... The fact you changed it and still have the fault confirms this.

The 2.6 isn't exactly a performance engine either.

Which it doesn't have :-X

Exactly..... and I wonder why OP has come here with a 'gearbox error' and states P0403.

I'll wager that because it's in Sports Mode, it won't change into top and giving pre-cat codes due to being strangled to death.... (although pre-cat codes are very common on the 2.6/3.2)

Factory fitted ;D, although given the apparent abuse the cats are probably shot.

A decent spanking every so often helps keep them clean, but the 2.6, whilst hardly a gutless dog, is no performance car. Also I wonder what we're not being told :-\

Any recent work? Any mods?

Indeed.  OP states it will change into top at 115MPH.  It's been a few years since I owned an Omega, but it was closer to 130MPH.  However, OP states the EML comes on (at ~115MPH) so I'll hazard a guess that Sport Mode is deactivated??????

High revs for a prolonged period of time could point to anything.  I know for fact that the pre-cat codes won't rein-in the power.... so there's something else going on here.

Without proper codes, we haven't got a clue.  :y

What is the OPs obsession with sport mode? :-\  I never ever used it on my Omega. BUT, it was only a Desmond.  :D

I assume this is an April Fool’s post. If not this idiot is doing 115mph on a road somewhere near you! >:(

The superior 3.0l auto would do 129mph in third.  Apparently.

To the OP, are you reading the TCM, or the engine for codes. They are different ECUs.

My 3.2 use to do this, floor it of the lights or were ever with sport mode in, fault code would flash up,, cured it by not using sport mode, and mine had 3.0L downpipes fitted.

Update to my problem, sports mode does not display on dashboard anymore and Car is very slow to move from a standing start and need to engage gears 1,2 and 3 to drive away. Last night whilst navigating some fierce road hump sports mode lit up on dashboard and dove as normal in drive for about an hour. Sports mode stopped working again and I suspect problem is between auto gear shift lever/button and gearbox wiring. How do you remove gear shift lever to change or fix. Any help much appreciated

What is the gear selector light doing, is it flickering about or is it stable on the selected gear?  Could be the gear selector switch on the side of the gearbox needs cleaning.  :-\

The poor acceleration in Drive is the gearbox in limp mode, hence why 1,2 and 3 work ok manually.

So what your saying is, follow the handy guide, in the relevent section within the forum, on how to remove and clean the selector switch.. :o

Also very similar symptoms to if the snow button was pressed .could be connected ? . Faulty ?
Again this is also dependant on wether this is an April fools joke that has been carried on too long or as mentioned also someone who thinks driving at over 100 mph is acceptable !
Personally I'm fed up to my back teeth of the amount of people who blatantly break the 20 mph limits around by me and not by a few mph either !
Nuff said or il go into victor mode !
