Title: Very nearly bought this TB machine last week.
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 23 March 2020, 14:59:03
......so much so that I actually left  a £1000 deposit......which, luckily for me, was refundable.

The spread of the Coronavirus made me reassess at the last moment despite a good price for my XFR. Lovely car but I think I made the right decision and hope to pick it up a few months from now at a 'much reduced price'

My guess is that there will be some motoring bargains around in the near future. :y

That is one ugly car.

I agree. But it has a certain 'beaten with the ugly stick' appeal. Much like the Jensen CV8. :y

In that colour with black wheels I agree ... but silver wheels would help.   :y

I suppose I like it because it is not generic looking like the German opposition. :)

I'd imagine that had shed quite a lot of it's original new list price?

Hell, yes. :y

One year and 10 months old.  Lost about £50000.

I wouldn't consider a new car.

I think the designers must have been inspired by the Morris Marina 1800TC Coupe!  :y

Although those wheels would look much better if the body was finished in BL Mustard.  :D  ;D

The later ones aren't as well specced as the early X351 XJ's.  A very capable car, but not what I'd call a drivers car.

Not much gives the baby killing tractor versions much trouble, the XJR has twice the bhp.

A lovely car though, but absolutely pig ugly at the back.

I really dislike black alloys, on any car. But the rest of it... Very cool  8)

For some reason the arse end reminds me of the Sunbeam Rapier H120 from the late sixties.

Does have similar overtones but the Sunbeam was a better looking car.

Yep....great looking car for the late sixties. Looked very modern at the time when compared to a MK2 Cortina.

Next XJ will be all electric, mainly for wafting politicians in and out of Whitehall, with enough low down torque to overcome the bulletproofing and to outrun a rotten egg, or three!
Am I right in thinking that the even though it looks lardy, the XJ-R is actually lighter than the XFR due to all alloy monocoque? Lots more room in the back too.

My XFR weighs 1880KG according to the handbook.

TB adds 200KG to the weight of his XJ when he sits in it. :)

Most current XJs are around 1.8t, same as most XF's and the Omega.  The Sentinel (the bullet proof one) is the exception.

X250 XFR is not all alloy, the X260 is but, not available with V8

New XJ is electric only at launch, after that though......

That sounds like inside info.  Yes I meant the X250,  I didn't know there was an R version of the "new" XF, apart from the mental SVO project 8, and what with 4wd and all, that's a proper lardipants, or put another way it has very high levels of Gravity Induced Downforce.  What ever happened to lightweighting?  All sacrificed on the alter of crash test performance no doubt.

I'm pretty sure the Project 8 is an XE rather than XF. :y

I clicked on the link to view the bike.  :y  There's a certain nostalgia to the ring ting ting of a two stroke. You had to watch the middle pot on those though as the large chrome mudguard did little to help the air cooling of the middle cylinder.  :y

In my youth I loved taking in 2 stroke fumes. The smell and sound of a yowling demented stroker was a tonic, although probably not one prescribed by a doctor.

RD400 and Suzuki GT 750 were best. :y

Editor / creator / founder of Evo magazine I think. He's also a farmer, I can only guess he must have some family wealth as I don' think either of those things would buy those cars, even if he was smart enough to buy them all at the bottom of their depreciation curves.

Harry has an easy going unassuming manner. He also owns a selection of great cars and bikes. I'd say he is not short of a bob or two. :y

Yes....Likeable. He understands that the cars and bikes are what people are watching for, and he doesn't let an over-inflated sense of himself dominate. Unlike many minor gobby celebs today.

I think the story goes he was a farmer and petrolhead and wanted to start up a magazine he approached the bank for a starter loan which they refused, he asked would they lend him money for a combine which they would so he used that cash to start EVO

Nice guy and as said, down to earth, taking his Testarossa through the Sahara took some plums though !

I bought a Honda Insight from him and made some pipes for his Zonda as part of the deal, what you see is what you get, a proper petrolhead.
