Title: Great SEREK SERVICE again
Post by: Lizzie Zoom on 02 August 2023, 12:04:03
Yesterday I took my Omega to Serek in Huntingdon.  He in just a few hours for a great price, fitted a cam belt kit, fitted new rear brake pads, adjusted the parking brake, and replaced the steering fluid.
This guy is a saviour for us trying to keep our Omega’s going. He is so experienced, totally reliable, honest and generally a lovely man. :y  8)
I, and my 12 year old grandson who I took for company and for him to get some car knowledge, enjoyed Serek’s rest room as a place to rest in addition to going to the local Dunelm store for food.

A overall very enjoyable and fruitful day out! 8) 8) :D ;)

It's great when you can get your vehicles looked after properly, regular expert maintenance certainly pays dividends in my opinion, I hope you enjoy many more years with your Omega Lizzie..👍

Thanks Rangie :y :y

Yes, I have got to that age when a real expert we can trust should maintain my car.  Although I will still do some of the smaller maintenance myself, the bigger stuff will be for Serek to do :D ;)

Yes my appointment was for tomorrow with Mr Serek, but unfortunately 12.5 years of Mv6 ownership came to an abrupt end yesterday literally 5 mins having just spent hundreds of ££s on 4 x new Bridgestones with less than 1 mile on them. backend went into a slide which i tried desperately to correct, I'm no rally driver, after that it was me and central reservation barrier. Thank God there was no else on the road. the motor is now scrap, interesting the previous tyres where Michelin pilot sport and they never did that..

That's bad news  :'(, but the main thing is nobody was hurt  :)

Hopefully a learning point for others that some new tyres need bedding in for a few miles, to get rid of the release agent on the tyres.

I recall ragging one of Gixer's 3.2s that had some half worn Potenza's on the back, and parking it up and making him drive home as I found the back end too lively to drive quickly

That is incredible bad luck! :o :o :o

The car may be a right off and another Omega gone, but at least you are ok. ;)

Is it repairable?

This is a different question to being written off or beyond repair.

That said, a door ding would write an Omega off.

Unless you talk constructively to the insurance company as I did after more than a ding in 2017.  They wanted to write it off, but I retorted "find me another 3.2 Omega with that mileage" to replace then.  They agreed to give me a payout, £1,211 (after the Compulsory excess), to cover a good chunk of the repair costs.  :D ;)

Insurance will write it off, ass the work on retail for all parts, also lots of Omega is NLS, you have to fight to keep write offs, that's why you never let them take the car to a "repairer" always have it recovered to your home address ..

Oh yes, how true that is!

I regret to this day that my green 2.5 Omega went into a "repairer", only for the insurance company to  just say "beyond economical repair" when it just had the offside rear light  section pushed in.   :'( :'( :'(

You're still entitled to having the car back should you choose.

I had a car damaged a few years ago & LV were having real difficulty in obtaining a new tailgate for it , I wasn't too concerned as it was still driveable, one of my colleagues in the Prison Service had worked in the insurance industry previously advised me simply to tell them that " I require the indemnity that my insurance policy provides" . They instantly offered me a very good cash offer & allowed me to keep the vehicle as well which I then traded in at my local Vauxhall dealer for a 2.6 Omega.

I had similar when my Desmond was written off. After the assessor said that it was a write off ,i informed my insurance company that i wanted to keep the car. They gave me a reasonable payout and i paid a local body shop to straighten the boot out for a 100 quid. Car lasted another two years until i terminally wrecked it.  :'(

Yes I was more than happy £2200 from the insurance + £1700 trade in allowance & the one owner 40,000 mile Omega had been reduced from £2995 to £1995 ,did okay from that.👍
