On the approach road to "Aidensfield" (Heartbeat) real name Goathland, North Yorkshire, just off the A169 Pickering to Whitby road.
Steam engines run along the NYMR line from Pickering to Whitby.
We also stopped off at Grosmont station, and Whitby for fish and chips at the Magpie cafe ::) Bloody expensive :o  but bloody lovely :y

Ah the mother land, Gods own country. Recognised it immediately.

Is Rosedale chimney bank still the steepest road in Britain 1 in 3.

I remember waiting for a car rally to come through very early one morning 40 odd years ago and first a procession of vintage Ford Pops came along uphill.

Looks like you've been to Aidensfield Mick. If they'd carried on with Heartbeat for a few more years they could've got some Omega police cars in!

We went to Goathland years ago, it was pitch black over those moors :o saying my prayers that the ode Cav didn't let us down  ;D
When we got to the pub it was like going into the "Slaughtered Lamb" in American Werewolf in London.. everyone stopped and look at us coming in.... didn't find it very welcoming and far to expensive to stop the night, so went down the road to a pub called "The Salmons Leap" lovely there.

That is the spot. I remember on one nightime car rally, breaking down and waiting in the village till it was a sensible enough time to ring (from a payphone - no mobiles in them days) for a tow home. There was a lovely smell of fresh baked pies and we bought a shedload at FIVE a.m. on a Sunday morning. I bet he closed down years ago. Happy memories. :)
