Time for a new Mobile Phone - Recomendatiobs
« on: 15 April 2023, 12:27:10 »

My Galaxy S7 Edge is getting out of date  Seems to be like the Wheel Tappaer & Shunters Social Club when trying to speak to people, I hear them but when the phone heats up they struggle to hear me.

Keep seeing the Galaxy S23 Ultra advertised and the Google Pixel Pro 7

Both seem excellent phones neither are cheap Google is £800/900 the S23U is £1400 (512GB version)

Dont know anyone who has either of these so wonderd if anyone in OOF land has got either of them.

Am leaning towards the Galaxy  as I have been using thier mobiles for years with out too much hassle.

Looked at USwitch offering some amazing contracts but cant take my old number.  (Unlimited Data/text/calls for same as I pay for 4Gb unlimted.

Could go via my phone provider and get interest free for 12/24/36 months with options for varible upfront paymts.

Also Paypal pay by 3 via my credit card delays 1st paymets depending on purchase date.

At the moment the camera on the S24 Ultra is swinging the choice.

I hate to owe money  :-\
I am very indecicive  ::)
I am getting . . . .  :-X

the list goes on and on.

Supplier not an issue for me its phone choice.

I have Three & Plusnet for my contracts.  (Both £6 PM) if I have a new contract phone the price for calls / data / text will never be the some.

Interestingly I once tried Vodaphone and could not even manage to make a phone call from home

Not sure who covers Tesco signal.

I have a 512GB Samsung S23 Ultra, which was a replacement for my S8. I bought mine outright direct from Samsung as I’m Sim only. Good camera, even in the dark, good zoom but the phone is noticeably bigger than my S8, which might annoy some people. It just fits in my automatic Auckley Wireless car holder, with about 8mm leeway on either side. I got the Samsung Ear Buds thrown in with mine but they’re of no use to me as I wear hearing aids.  ::)

I'm still using a Blackberry Curve, so any input from me would be totally irrelevant.  :D Same as normal really.  ;)

All the phones seem identical with regards to doing what a phone should do, i.e. making calls, texting, WhatsApping, etc. The only things they push on the ads are the difference in the camera, which doesn't interest me at all.
I have a gayphone 11, more than enough for my needs.

My 2nd phone  is an Oppo A9 2020 that weighs in at 195 grams, 6.5" screen and dual sim

The Galaxy is 234 Grams 6.8" screen , dual sim so just short of 40 drams heavier

When I bought the Oppo Carphone wharehouse told me it was capable of wireless charging (Sadly not the case)

So far then The Galaxy looks like the way to go  :y

Excellent Camera
Dual Sim
Wireless charging
512 Gb memory

Just need a deal for the free buds included now.

I agree

The camera does appeal for me hence going for the higher spec ultra.

As for Apple I am best not saying a word. :-X :-X

Modern premium smartphones are bigger than 3 or 4 year old ones, and a lot more expensive.

If you're an Android fan, Samsung S series is hard to beat (ignoring cost), if you're an Apple user, iPhone 14 (go for Pro or Max versions if photos are important) is also an excellent phone.

Both these are huge steps up from things like S8/9 and iPhone 7/8/X in performance terms and photo capability.  And both tend to get decent support from the manufacturer for a decent period of time, unlike many other brands of Android.

In the case of Android, I'd be more inclined to buy outright, and use a SIM only contract, as you get security and feature updates as soon as the handset manufacturer releases them, rather than waiting for your carrier to do so - and many don't bother, especially on less popular models.  It usually works out cheaper anyway if you shop around for decent SIM only contracts.

And if cost is a factor, Samsung A series worth a look for Android fans, and iPhone SE for Apple fans.

Both are functionally "nearly" as good as their big brothers, although they tend to have more knobbled cameras.
