Tragic ....but who was at fault
« on: 29 November 2012, 14:53:36 »

A death occured on the Nottingham tram system yesterday, a young girl:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-20538567

Very tragic but, who is ultimately at fault?

I know this crossing and visability is good, the trams are lit up like xmas trees and last night was far from dark (full moon and no clouds)

Should these crossings be idiot proof?

That is very sad :'( :'(

However, whenever humans physically cross any kind of railway there are risks.  There always was with trams, and there still is. ::) ::) :(

Do kids learn the "green cross code" at school nowdays  :-\
Did her parents set a bad example by walking across the road with her when the "red man" was showing  :-\
All questions that will be going threw the parents heads at the moment.  :(

All kids push the limits when away from the apron strings of mam and dad so who knows what really happened here other then a young life wasted  :(
Sadly, its now our culture to always pass the blame when something goes wrong like this.
Feel for the kids parents but I feel more for the tram driver  :(

if at one point several accidents happen , it prooves that there is a need for arrangement..

imo criticising peoples perception or iq doesnt solve the problem..

The question is ................ just when do you stop holding your kids hand and leave then to there own devices ?
I taught my lad (17 now) to look after himself from a very early age to be fair, he is incredibly responcable  :)
If fact he had more road sence when he was 8 years old then his mother has now  :-[ :o

Can you make anything "idiot proof"? :-\

Can't be any more dangerous nor difficult than crossing a busy road, surely? Millions of people have to cope with that on a daily basis. Very occasionally it goes wrong.

We have never been wrapped in as much cotton wool as we are these days yet this type of sad accident has always happened, and probably always will. You can beat safety into people as much as you like, you can try to remove danger from their environment if you like, but you won't succeed 100%, and someone will always suffer a lapse of concentration that will prove tragic. :(

It is a very similiar to case of the girls who got killed on a level crossing and I'm sorry but if you don't use your cokum then accidents happen. We can't make the world idiot proof I'm afraid, the number of people I see walking around with ear phones in listening to music and texting trivia who walk out into the road is astounding.
I agree with TG, about the green cross code and the stop look and listen mantra when crossing the road or a train/tram track

100% is impossible.. but whatever ratio you can achieve by spending money, it must be done.. there is no cost for human life..clever or idiot..

and if at one specific point there happens similiar accidents either pedestrians or cars it must be corrected..

we have lots of themalthough some think they are ugly.. may be ...  but not worth someone dying because its not existent

and one more point.. all of us can make mistakes any moment regardless of our iq level or education..

if you make that mistake at the wrong place and time , you are dead.. you can be sad, happy, mind full of problems..

anything that effects you..
