Omega General Help / 3.0 Cams - Identification - Help!
« on: 21 April 2007, 12:02:17 »
Morning all,

Kevin and myself have the engine in peices, all ready to remove the old cams now - we've got the new ones but we're unsure which is which this is quite important!

The numbers on the new ones are:

G2   A7   A3   G8

Can someone tell me if its these numbers that identify them, if it is - which order do I put them in looking at the engine from the front of the car?!

Many thanks - if these are not the numbers needed please let me know...

Cheers in advance,

Chris.

Omega General Help / Aircon Cutout..
« on: 25 April 2007, 10:10:51 »
Hi all,

My work colleagues Elite's aircon keeps cutting out.

He had it re-gassed, I told him that if the gas was too low it wouldn't come on, or might switch off - he got it checked again, still full of gas - so no leaks by the looks of it.

I've told him he may have a dodgy compressor - offered him the one of my GLS of course if it is that...

Any thoughts on any of the above?

Many thanks,

Chris.

Omega General Help / Thermostat Woes..
« on: 13 April 2007, 12:32:19 »
..even before I start.

Autovaux swore the 2 seals, 2 bolts (as they are bigger on the new stat) and some peice of pipe would be here today..

They're not, and won't be because the idiots sent it via royal mail 1st class recorded, rather than a guaranteed next day - they've really fu**ed me off on this one, so thats the end of business between us..

Anyway - can I just get 2 m8x30 bolts myself and bung them in?  Also, I've got the seal on the stat, + one more that I need (Could be one of the two I've ordered (making 3))..

Is it doable with the bits I've got?  I really wanted to at least do something this weekend, since I have a pass from the war office..

Omega General Help / Exhaust Question..
« on: 10 April 2007, 08:55:09 »
Would there be a problem with me putting the 3.0L twin exit exhaust on my 2.5L which normally has just a single exit - the system looks the same apart from the back box..

Cheers,

Chris.

Omega General Help / Air Bag Light
« on: 02 April 2007, 09:08:11 »
Having fitted my new seats now, I have caused another problem!  The airbag light is on.

I have checked the connections, and everything is plugged in.  None of the seatbelt tensioners have fired, all is as it should be it would appear..

Is there anyway to get codes out of of it to find out which ones causing the issue?  Does it just need a reset - can I do that?

Much appreciated as always,

Chris.

Omega General Help / Fitting Leather Seats
« on: 31 March 2007, 22:41:51 »
Hi all,

Question for you if you'd be so kind :)

My CD had some power functions on the drivers seat.  My new leather interior has lots more power functions e.g. memory.  The connectors are all the same, however on the new seat theres also a bigger connector with about 12-16 pins which I have nothing to plug into.  The seat won't do anything and I'm guessing its because of this, the fuse is ok and they were working in the car they came from.

What am I missing here?!  Do I need to remove some wiring / add some / short some pins perhaps?

Any advice, dearly appreciated.. I believe JamesV6 is sending me a diagram which may help..

Thanks in advance,

Chris.

Omega General Help / Exhaust System Change
« on: 30 March 2007, 11:00:41 »
Hi all,

I have at least one rattling cat, and a couple of holes elsewhere.

Is this a job I can do with relative ease?  Having never changed an exhaust myself I just don't know, so any advice appreciated.. The bit that looks scary is where the cat part bolts on to the exhaust manifold - getting to it looks fun (or it could be that its on a downpipe and I shouldn't worry, not sure..)

Cheers guys,

Chris.

Omega General Help / Gearbox Swap Advice
« on: 26 March 2007, 09:40:18 »
Morning!

Now I have my V6 project car, seen here theres work to be done.

I have an autobox that needs to go on the car, and ideally I want to do this job myself rather than take it to a garage.

Can anyone give me guidance on roughly what I need to do, and what parts (besides some transmission fluid) that I will need...

Sorry its such a big question, but I'm desperate to restore it to a nice driving state..

Cheers in advance,

Chris.

Omega General Help / Think my wishbones are gone again
« on: 28 March 2007, 10:50:24 »
Stupid amounts of noise coming from both sides this morning - all I can assume is that where I didn't have a torque wrench I just guessed, couple that with not tightening the bolts on the ground (the guide doesn't state this I don't think) and I suppose you end up with knackered bushes again...

Bit crap really, supposed to be having full alignment done on Sat..

I'm going to have to buy a torque wrench that goes much higher than my current one, and new wishbones.

Question: tightening them on the floor - can I do it on my ramps, I do not see how you are supposed to tighten them without a pit, or a car lift otherwise!

Cheers,

Chris.

Omega General Help / 50 Instead of 55 Profile Tyres
« on: 29 March 2007, 13:33:58 »
All, I have an urgent one here:

Will putting 50 profile tyres on 16" wheels cause MOT failure?  There were 2 wheels with 50 profile on when I bought them, and as they were cheaper I got them instead of 55's..

This is urgent, fitting station are ready for me now..

Many thanks in advance,

Chris.

« on: 13 March 2007, 18:11:46 »
Hi,

Can someone tell me whereabouts the level plug is on an autobox, i.e drivers side, engine side?  Is it on the box or on the bit leading to the big sump?

got it jacked up right now but not sure what I'm looking for!!!

Cheers in advance,

Omega General Help / Fuel Pump to Fuel Tank Seal
« on: 21 March 2007, 16:13:54 »
Not sure if anyone would have done this already, just wondering how hard this is to change?

Don't know how many of you saw in a couple of other threads about this, but the story goes:

Take day off work to drive to SLady bitshorpe to get new elite wheels, go to Sainsburys to fill up FULL for the first time.  £35 in and its flooding out from under the car, and I do mean flooding - like a waterfall!  Sainsburys staff want to call firebrigade, but managed to subdue them by getting handy with A LOT of sand - its all still coming out everywhere, now a lake of fuel on the forecourt!

Managed to push it off the forecourt with the help of a guy in his suit on his way to work (bet he was happy)..  AA comes out and takes carpet out of the boot, removes the circular metal plate to access the top of the tank, as thats where it looks like its leaking from.  Sure enough its bubbling out all over the place from the circlular plastic thing that you turn with both hands - it might has well have not been on there its so loose!!

Tightened up, but it still leaks - and now I can't put more than £20 in a time just in case!

What do you reckon?  Is it normal for a seal to corrode and this thing to come loose, seemed bloody odd to me and the AA chap.. Anything I should know when I attempt to change it (besides no smoking ;) )

Cheers,

Chris.

Omega General Help / Identification of Bad Leak + Other Bits
« on: 14 March 2007, 09:54:53 »
Hi all,

Once again I need some assistance if possible, got under the car last night after fitting my new cam cover to try and identify the source of my oil leak, found a few bits I need some help identifying the source of this leak with...

Firstly, this photo is under the car facing from the front to the rear - its the autobox I believe, should there be something in this space as it would appear its a hole straight into the box / engine!

Secondly, these 3 photos are of a couple of bits around the oil filter housing - there is A LOT of oil, and its very wet all around - could these bits be leaking?  One looks like a pipe with a union (higher in photo) the other with the silver stuff looks like some kind of sensor..

A few different angles there, anyone got any ideas?  As always, much appreciated!

Cheers in advance,

Chris.
