Aircon Cutout..
« on: 25 April 2007, 10:10:51 »

Hi all,

My work colleagues Elite's aircon keeps cutting out.

He had it re-gassed, I told him that if the gas was too low it wouldn't come on, or might switch off - he got it checked again, still full of gas - so no leaks by the looks of it.

I've told him he may have a dodgy compressor - offered him the one of my GLS of course if it is that...

Any thoughts on any of the above?

Many thanks,

Chris.

Is the compressor clutch disengaging or does the cooling just stop with the compressor still running?

I think the clutch will disengage if the pressure is below a certain level, if the coolant temperature is too high or if the evaporator frosts up. Are the auxiliary fans running with the air con? Do they stop when it cuts out?

If the compressor is disengaging I would suspect it's something other than the air con system itself. I've read somewhere about an anti-frosting sensor near the evaporator that can cause problems.

Sounds most plausible to me.  Was the recharge done from empty with a known and measured weight of refrigerant or was it 'topped up'?  Its easy to overfill if you dont know how much is in there to start with.
