Mobile WIFI USA

Not sure why my previous thread has been locked?

Anyway - turns out neither device work in the USA - the 4G LTE bands apparently aren't used/enabled here. So I'll be relying on McWifi for the next 3 weeks.

I'll let you know how I get on with 3 and Vodafone over there in the next couple of months... JFK next week and EWR a couple of times in October. :D

Not that either matter much as we get free WiFi globally. Which is nice.

It's a while ago now (2015) but I had no problem with 3 in Houston, New Orleans and everywhere in between.  :y

I expect it's the jamming equipment the aliens use at Area 51 that's causing Malc's problems!  :-\   ::)

Had no issues with a UK 3 SIM in a UK iPhone 6S in Florida 4 or 5 years back, apart from signal if out of the towns and not near an Interstate....

3 was working just fine in the USA back in June.

But from memory, I am pretty sure that 3 don't allow you to use a mobile hotspot outside of your home country.  Put the sim in a phone and it should work.

Of course, not being a regular mobile user, he may simply have failed to charge it :D

I was in USA and Canada in May and my 3 sim worked fine, and allowed hotspot in USA well enough (bit slow, but it was Alaska!). I didn't try it in Canada as it's outside of 3's roaming agreement and it's about £2/mb  :o

It's not the 3 SIMs that are the problem. Its that none of the US telecoms companies implement the 4G-LTE communication protocols, which is what the two widgets I bought from eBay require.

So far it's not been too bad - both cars I've rented have had Satnav without me having to pay for it.

I suspect that the Fiesta Sedan is probably the only car that doesn't have standard sat nav nowadays. But at least you'll know where you are :y
