after spending 2 full days on these im stumped. ive swopped every chip (bar one) and every capacitor between units. still unit 1 stays distorted.
i had another basic unit that came without the cd changer input so have swapped all the relevant components to make this work the changer and all seems good in that department.so theoretically im up and running but what a nightmare ! i was hoping someone who does ice for a living might have popped along and said something along the lines of ' oh its usually the ######### that causes that  but at least it kept me busy and gave me practise swapping chips !

hi.
yes different almost everything !
fault is on one unit. deck (and tape ) plays fine in other unit.so its in the circuit after the pick up head amp and before the main power amp .changed the head amp and capacitors.

yes i was wondering about maybee dave dnd.i think that is his trade ?
i dont have a schematic for mine and am struggling to find one.
its doing my head in at the moment !
i had 6 hours yesterday on it and today since 7 !
i know that part swapping isnt the ideal way but one board works perfect.

hi.a question to any car radio engineers please.i hope someone can help.
i have a blaupunkt san diego dj head unit (radio, cassette).this is the type that has various other connotations such as milano rcr127,st malo rcm127,etc .fitted with the 8638308752 pcb from circa mid/late 90's. ? the one with the removable front,4x35w ,2 egg shaped 4 button controls to the left.
hope that has identified the unit !
i have a few of these in various cars and am having an issue with one of them.
radio crystal clear, remote cd changer perfect .all 4 amp channels perfect.
issue is with very distorted (gritty sounding) cassette  on both channels.    i have exchanged cassette decks from other unit. problem not on deck.
i have also swapped the 8 pin op amp in the top right corner of the board. voltage to this chip vcc is same on both units 8.54v.. also virtually all the electrolytics.  still the problem remains.

Omega General Help / Re: Handbrake cable
« on: 23 February 2023, 17:58:28 »
main thing is getting the saddle straight. hopefully you will sort it.but i suppose even a new cable could be made slightly out so if thats so you can always add washers to one of the curled brackets to make it straight !

i have had a look under mine today for you and the saddle is straight. the pull is equal at both sides.only because you got me wanting to check !

yes i saw that too.
unfortunately it doesnt mention which side the longer one goes to !  but seeing as your problem only began after a new cable was fitted it is a good place to start.

im pretty sure there was last time i did one and someone also mentioned it earlier up this thread.
either way its a good way to be sure and 100% check the curled hooks ! washer on them if needs be !
if the cable saddle doesnt sit straight then it must be something in the drums ?

not sure on an estate but im pretty sure the compensator/saddle on a saloon is on the outside ,under the shields.
but again as mentioned earlier,if the saddle isnt straight then theres an uneven pull somewhere.my moneys on the cable being the wrong way round.(ie the op says the rear shoes are adjusted up correct each side and the levers that the cable hooks onto are in the same relative places.so the difference causing the saddle to not sit straight must be in the cable.

and also to be completely sure make sure the return springs are present at each lever and the levers when adjusted are in the same relative place.

from what i can remember last time i fitted one the lengths are indeed different each side. either on the actual cable itself or the outer sheath.
the fact that the adjuster saddle isnt sitting square indicates a problem
either..
the cable is indeed handed and is the wrong war round.
the handbrake mechanism is wrongly adjusted or faulty otherwise.
the outer cable retainers are pulling through the eyes.this is a very common issue .the eyes are only a curl of metal rather than a solid ring.

i would have no problems fitting a used oil cooler .after all every omega on the road now is fitted with a 'used'oil cooler.in fact every car on the road theoretically is just a collection of used parts of various ages bolted together.thats the same argument about part worn tyres, etc etc etc.
as regards the motivation ,ive had many times in the past when ive lifted carpets and found huge amounts of rust on cars and become dishertened with them and wanted to give up/scrap them. i was told the best solution was to come out of the garage, close the door and go inside until you were in a better frame of mind and could start the repairs systematically and in smaller sections.
one of my cavs had badly rusted outer, inner sills ,floor and footwells and was nearly scrapped in the late 90's
i still own that car now !

also. we are supposed to be omega enthusiasts on here so ANY repairs should just get done .the idea of "value" vs scrapyard offerings should not even come to mind.  ive seen this idea in a few other threads and shouldnt even be discussed !

you james are a proper enthusiast from your postings over the years so im convinced you will get the motivation to carry on with it and then start enjoying it as you did. even if you get it finished and sell it as a working car ,better than scrapping it.

respect to you
