Omega General Help / Re: Erratic 2.2
« on: 16 January 2023, 14:57:55 »
as mentioned above please dont despair and just stand back and look at each car logically. dont necessarily condem the headgasket yet either at this stage, water droplets and salad cream in the filler cap and on the dipstick dont nesessarlily mean head gasket failure. as stated conndensation takes a while to clear especially this time of year,
if you drain the oil and its ALL gone beige and emulsified then yes maybee but i suspect you are just seeing bits on the dipstick .
obviuously gaskets can fail but your blocked breathers, leaking cam cover gaskets / oily plug wells are a first line of approach at this stage.
you think that oil would be an insulator but it brings all manner of misfires to light and can also damage a borderline coil.especially with water in it !
idealy a local member to have a look would be my suggestion NOT a garage and take it from there but if your happy doing the diagnosis and work yourself then just do it logically and in stages.
not the best time of year to work i know but you will get there.

Omega General Help / Re: Headlight adjuster replacement.
« on: 16 January 2023, 10:57:43 »
they can be replaced without removing the lens. yes its fiddly but can be done. with the adjuster motor and bulb out helps. hardest bit was getting the old one out.
worth a try first especially if you were thinking of removing the lens in the end anyway.nothing to loose.

if the ball is intact and the hole / edges are intact a sheet of plastic over the ball is usually enough to restore rigidity. greased up obviously.
worked on a mates vectra taxi where the wiper linkage regularly fell off !

The arm on the sensor bracket isn't spring loaded Chris - it just adopts whatever position the wishbone or rear swinging arm causes it to be in!

thanks.
maybee mine (although working fine) does have a slight fault anyway . it never had any error message when the car was bought but the lights didnt move .arm was off.
putting the arm back on made them work again.its been mentioned that the ecu looks for movement signals that suggest the car is driving. and i suppose that unkess we found a road that was as smooth as glass it would alwaysdetect this ?

yes radweld and barrs etc work fine .especially if you only use a small amount.
i always add a half bottle when doing a flush and refil to all my cars . heaters all still work fine. ( obviously excessive amounts will settle and clog a matrix but quarter ir half bottle dont !

as i once asked a while back ( cant remember the reply )
if the arm comes off why does it throw up afault ?surely thats just like a non moving car ?
is the shaft then free to move to its extreme end or spring loaded ?
when i got my omega one arm was detached and allthat happened was the lights didnt move when you loaded the boot. arm back on and they moved again !

then at least if the fault swaps with the sensor you know its that.
but i know what you mean for now its not exactly playing out weather and thats me talking. im usually doing something to my fleet but not until it warms a bit !

possibly worth swapping the 2 front sensors over if theyle undo. just to see if it comes back again as the same sensor

General Car Chat / Re: Bending a rod
« on: 09 January 2023, 11:49:45 »
i would say its a lot easier to heat and twist the area leading up to the bend than trying to strsighten it and then bend the other way. if you heat it and twist it over a long area theres less chance of snapping it.
if the side is actually long enough you may even manage it without any heat at all hence no damage.

Omega General Help / Re: 2.6 metallic "clink" sound on start up
« on: 08 January 2023, 15:21:14 »
hard to be 100% sure but i can hear it. obvious checks as to wether water pump pulley and others are not loose . could try it with aux belt off if its a regular sound every time ?
sounds like i once had when an exhaust clamp was fractured but there arnt any that near that would be so obvious ?

General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?
« on: 07 January 2023, 11:40:35 »
Managed to get another intake valve from my local engine recon place, £8 cash. Head assembled and refitted, cams timed up and locked with my new timing kit. Alternator, starter and engine mount fitted as well but stuck now as need thermostat, water pump, crank seals and a belt kit. Looks like a remote oil cooler, after an inline thermostat but not found one yet.

mine has an inline thermostat from a renault 5 i beleive. this just pushes into the top hose. has worked fine for last 5 years !

thankyou.
