"Phut-Phutty" Air-Con Sound.
« on: 26 July 2012, 17:37:14 »

So it's hot out hence only noticing this now.

When in eco mode you can have fans on full and it sounds clean, like normal (like my other omegas did in fact)

But knock off eco and whilst there is some cooling (seems less than last week even) there is a weird light turbulence sound, literally like the sound of a squeezy bottle that is running out of ketchup / it's contents. It's particularly on the centre and across to the left and is still there whatever other settings are invoked.

Also noticed that the pollen filter is not in any sort of "cage" under the skuttle and the auto re-circulate doesn't work like it did on my last FL MV.

Any Climate MIG guru able to shed some light?

Hmmn, do you know if the pollen filter behaviour get changed depending on if it's in eco mode or not?

Anyone got a pic of what the pollen filter looks like in it's default situ?

I have the same noise in mine after a regas today.
Defo doesnt sound like a rattly filter.

I thought maybe small pockets of air in the refrigerant.

It does kinda sound like when a fuel pump is drawing air, like it's suddenly not under load as much, almost skipping forward kind of sound!

Think it's a separate issue, it works and keeps most of the stink out, but just not as effective and there are other whistles and howls that the other omegas (all with higher mileage) never had. TBH, I can live with the re-circ stuff, so long as it stops making windy spirting sounds!

Where is the flap located?

I know my old mig used to sound like it was making minor adjustments to the vents all the time, little creaks kind of had charm! This one doesnt though hehe.

Aah kewl will take a look.

I see other GM's have related issues  - the symptoms sound similar to this saab chap.. However mine is definitely like Murphs..  :o

Will go for a de-gas, lubrication and re-fill I guess in due course and see if it solves some of it as well as investigating re-circ.

Air con works by pumping refrigerant round in a circuit. High pressure gas from the compressor goes through the condensor, in front of the main radiator, where it loses heat. It then goes through a pressure reduction valve and into the evaporator, in the cabin where the low pressure liquid boils and draws heat from the air.

I wonder if you are hearing the sound of boiling refrigerant?

I have heard the noise in both my Omegas but it only seems to occur when the car has been parked in the sun and the system is running at full speed.  :-\
