Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Fog light switches
« on: 31 December 2009, 12:41:38 »
Hi All

Does anyone know if the fog light switches on my car should be illuminated?

I notice that in the dark, i can't actually see the buttons so can't tell whether i'm putting the front or back ones on until they're on and the light shows up in the speedo area.

I know in previous vauxhalls (cavaliers/astras) that most switches seem to be illuminated by small bulbs built into the switch and replacements are easily obtainable.

Many thanks
Dan

Omega General Help / Front brake pads
« on: 01 May 2010, 13:00:07 »
Hi all

I need to change my front pads due to the anti rattle spring vanishing on the passenger side and the noise driving me nuts.

I've changed pads on other Vauxhalls before, Cavaliers, Calibras etc, but i've heard that on Omega's, if you force the caliper piston back to take the pads out and allow the new thicker pads to go on, you can effectively flip the seals on the master cylinder when you push the fluid back through the system giving you spongy brakes.

Any idea if this is true or how to avoid it? Got the pads ready to go.

Also, i noticed that the brake pad check wire had been snapped off and stuffed into the loop of the rubber bleed nipple cover. It obviously hasn't had any negative effect so far, so should i replace the wire or leave it off?

Thanks for any advice you guys have.

Cheers
Dan

Omega General Help / New clattering noise
« on: 20 April 2010, 10:47:20 »
Hi All

Now we have nice weather I can drive around with the windows down. Unfortunately, ive now noticed a new noise. Like a clattering coming from the front left hand side wheel area. I can't find anything loose on inspection, and when i jack the wheel up, nothing seems wobbly. However, when its on the floor and if i kick the wheel (i don't always do it) i can replicate the clattering noise.

Im wondering if it could be the wishbones on their way out. On my previous Omega the wishbones went and it was more of a definite clunking noise.

I think whatever it is is possibly put under pressure when the car is lifted which is why it doesn't make the noise when in the air but does when it's resting in the normal position allowing movement in whatever part it is thats wobbly

any clues? is wishbones a novice job or definitely one best left for a mechanic (last time i didn't know about you guys so just got a mechanic to do it)

Omega General Help / Front Central Locking Motors
« on: 17 April 2010, 20:44:19 »
Hi All,

Long time no speak! Today I finally got around to checking out my central locking on the front doors of my '03 2.6 Omega.

When i bought it, the front passenger side wouldn't operate, and now the drivers door won't operate so i need to lock the car by key, no big deal.

I've been looking on ebay for some motors/solenoids but can't find any. Does anyone know if motors from any other car will fit straight on, like from a Vectra maybe? If not, any idea how much these are likely to cost from Vauxhall?

Also, finally fixed my heating problem (where the heat only came outa the passenger side vents). just by chance, i saw a motor on the drivers side footwell that was exactly like the one on the passenger side which is mentioned in the guide on how to fix this issue and bugga me, the rod was hanging off the back of it, so thats that sorted...now winter is over, sighhhh

anyway, hopefully someone here can help with the central lockin issue :-)

thanks
Dan

Omega General Help / effing Fuel Range display
« on: 03 February 2010, 21:15:32 »
Hi peeps

My omega has started doing something strange today. This morning my fuel guage was just above red and usually gives me about 30-40 miles to go. when i left work the 'range' showed 55 miles, i drove 12 miles to work, same journey i always do, nothin exciting happened but when i got to work it said range 5 miles.

Strange i thought. so filled up and range said 305 miles (which i'd never get with my short journeys). When i got in the car this evening to go home it kept saying range was 'F'. i reset the display and it would go back to saying 300 odd miles but then flick back to 'F' which ive never seen it do before.

Anyone had this before??

Omega General Help / Automatic gear lever lights
« on: 27 December 2009, 10:36:32 »
Hi all, hope you had a great xmas!

Since driving in the heavy snow last week, my car has developed a new 'thing' to annoy me.

Whenever i move the gear selector, the selector light which shows you what mode you're in jumps to the 'number 2' light, then all the lights light up so you can't tell what mode you are in, then a minute or so later it catches up and you finally find out what you've selected.

Luckily i'm used to the position of the stick so can tell if i'm in drive or reverse etc, but does anyone know what this might be?

Doesn't affect gear selection or drive at all, just hoping its not the start of something bigger and more expensive as i've already got other issues with this car and i'm close to going Basil Fawlty on it.

Hope someone can cheer me up

Many thanks
Dan

Omega General Help / Heater problem
« on: 01 November 2009, 17:12:06 »
Hi

I have just purchased a 2003 2.6 V6 Automatic Omega on 73,000mls and it has a couple of problems - which i knew about before i bought it.

The main one i need help with is that there doesn't seem to be any heat coming from the drivers side vents in any mode, but heat does come from the passenger and rear vents. Any clues? I thought it may just be a tube come off somewhere or possibly duff heater matrix.

You thoughts would be most welcome...

Omega General Help / Rubbing / Whining sound
« on: 06 November 2009, 14:56:45 »
Hi

I've tried looking through old posts but can't find my exact problem.

My Omega has started making a funny whining/rubbing noise when turning right, on a roundabout for example. You can hear and feel it start to rub once you start turning and as the turn gets tighter the rubbing gets more intense.

I've had a look underneath and can't find anything obvious so the next step was gonna be kwik fit (i know i know)

just wondering if you guys had any ideas what it might be? CV joint maybe? it feeds back up through the steering wheel and is sometimes accompanied by some clunking which feels like its right in the middle under my left foot.

Any advice would be great

Cheers
Dan

General Car Chat / air con question...for a vectra ;-)
« on: 27 June 2010, 13:56:40 »
Hi

sorry, bit naughty, but you guys have helped so much with my omega questions you just might know the answer to this with my new (to me) Vectra C...

When I test drove it, the a/c was ice cold and from all vents. The day after I bought it i had vauxhall service it (hopefully not connected to this problem). Just used the air con for the first time today and from the top far right vent, the air was cold, the next vent to my left wasn't as cold, the one next to that was warmer still and the one on the far left was even warmer.

If i shut off the far right vent, it forced the cold air to the next vent and so on.

Any clues what this might be? VX did do an engine coolant change, would that affect the heating system at all? Heat comes out evenly from all vents as far as I can tell

Cheers
Dan
