Speaker advice
« on: 28 December 2012, 00:39:40 »

I have an Onkyo AV unit with my xbox, wii etc running through it.

I laid my hands to a pair of floor standing speaker which are 8 ohms, I've looked up the details on my AV unit and it says it runs at 6 ohms.

Now I am no expert at this and not really sure what it means, just wondering if it will harm the AV unit or the speakers??

Any ideas please?

TIA :y

Optimum performance is achieved with matched impedance (ohms), but as long as you have a higher impedance value on the speakers then you'll not harm the amp. Never run speakers with a lower impedance than the amp.

Not an issue, the ohms figure is only a very basic indicator anyway as the impedance will vary with frequency quite a bit.

Anyway, the source's you are using a far from hifi anyway :y

Thanks for the advice guys!!

I will look for 6 ohm speakers in the new year, but at least in the meantime I know now that I won't be doing any harm!!   :)
