Hi all,

next week (w/c 14th January) my Omega "Morticia" will be up for sale - I'll put it on Ebay to give it the widest audience, but here's the info for anyone on here who might be interested:

2000/W (facelift) Omega GLS 2.0 16v Auto estate WITH LPG CONVERSION.
122,000 miles (or thereabouts), lots of service history, Tax until end of March (PLG rate), MOT till March, but will put 12mths on it.  136bhp 16v engine.  Returns around 20-25mpg on LPG (70p a litre) - or equivalent of 40-45mpg compared to running on unleaded at £1.30 a litre  :)

Solid black with grey cloth interior.  MV6 door cards, MV6 centre console trim, new Climate control panel.

SPEC:  Electric front windows and mirrors, remote central locking, alloy wheels with locking centre caps, power steering, adjustable steering column, dual zone climate control, electric adjustment of height of driver's seat, heated mirrors, PARROT CK3100 Bluetooth Handsfree kit (worth £150), rear load cover.  Tinted 'privacy glass'.  Roof rails.  Body coloured bumpers.

In the last 12mths its had:  Full service, Cambelt, aux belts and waterpump, new cam sensor, LPG system repaired and serviced (over £200), new alternator, all tyres replaced, rear main oil seal replaced and breathers cleaned (over £300) and handbrake adjusted.

Condition:  Overall pretty good for age and mileage.  Bumpers have a few scuffs, the driver's side mirror cover could do with changing (spare included), and there is a patch of rust on the tailgate under the wiper arm (common on these apparantly).  A rust patch under the LPG filler has been treated.

I've spent about a thousand pounds on repairs and upgrade parts for this car, and I know I'll never get that back and its my loss.

I'm looking for £695.00 OVNO, this car is fully sorted and ready to give good, reliable family/workhorse transport for many more years.  It did nearly 2000 miles round France in 2012, loaded to the gunnells with family and luggage and never missed a beat.  I've had the car since December 2011, and have done 5-6000 miles - a third of that being last years holiday.

I'm also selling all the upgrade stuff I bought for it:

Front fog lights and wiring loom
Elite velour interior & door cards
MV6 door cards
Electric rear window motors and wiring looms
Tow Bar (one mounting plate missing though)

I'm replacing the car with a small MPV, but cannot procede with the purchase until the Omega has gone.

Any viewing / test drive welcome, please get in touch if you're interested.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Elite seats to a GLS.... :-(
« on: 18 August 2012, 18:34:34 »
ok peeps, so its like this, to give us a bit more comfort, I've bought a nice velour Elite interior for my humble GLS estate, and today we set about fitting it whilst dodging the showers.

We need the following wiring looms (if available) to make the seats work:

REAR SEATS:  the seats came with their own wires, and we got a loom off of Twiglet that has the relays, but we have no wiring from that loom to the car (and the heated rear seat switches) - can anyone help out here?

FRONT SEATS: (only attempted driver's side so far)  GLS only has electric up/down mode, whereas the Elite is all singing and dancing.  As you can see from the attached photos, I have no wiring in the car's seat loom (with the black connector) to power any of the electric features on the seat(s).  Is this loom available?

We've had a friend promise us a Haynes Manual for the F/L Omega for some time, but its never materialised, if we had one of those we could look at the wiring diagram and probably suss things out for ourselves, however, as we don't, it's over to our esteemed OOF colleagues to advise - or come up with the bits we need hopefully in exchange for beer tokens  :)

cheers,

Claire

Hi all,

as per title, EML came on this afternoon without warning, and car has gone into limp mode.

Its got plenty of petrol, a nearly full tank of LPG, the oil level looks fine on the dipstick (despite the intermittent oil leak) and there's plenty of coolant in it.

Is this a main dealer jobbie (at oodles of money) or will a local garage have the 'computer says no' equipment?

Or failing that, anyone local to Nottinghamshire with a diagnostic kit?

Getting fed up of spending money on the car now, tempted to just make it look pretty and get rid   :-\

General Car Chat / we're back, but so's the oil leak :-(
« on: 18 June 2012, 13:08:26 »
hi all,

got back last week from taking 'Morticia' to France, and she was brilliant, and covered a total of 1915 miles in 12 days.

She only complained once, and I cant blame her, as we did the epic fail of hitting Paris at 5pm on a Friday night (and it was 28C) at that point.

We had the windows down and heater blasting to keep the engine temperature down below 90 degress (coolant level fine), but after an hour of crawling round the Paris ring road network, the EML came on, which had me panicking and having visions of breaking down in possibly the worst place you can think of.  We made it to a service area just outside Paris, filled up with LPG, and to our horror found out the oil leak, that seem to have dissapeared after James' visit a few weeks ago, had made a re-appearance   >:(    We got some oil (€49 for 5 litres!!!!!  :o ), and topped it up.  We restarted the car, the EML went out, and the car was fine after that, no more glitches or anything.

We got some more 'stop leak' at a hypermarket, but it hasnt made any difference, and the car is continuing to leave its mark every time we stop somewhere.  I dont think its losing alot, as we've not had to put any more in it, but its annoying that its leaking oil again.  We had a quick feel around, and the camcover gasket feels dry, so its not coming from there.

Gonna see if I can get it booked in somewhere so that it can be put up on a ramp, engine cleaned off, and a thorough investigation carried out as to where the leak is coming from - unless anyone on here has any ideas?

General Discussion Area / massive thanks to James!!
« on: 12 May 2012, 17:47:16 »
can I just say a big thank you to James for coming over today to do the cambelt/waterpump/etc on Morticia and also alaying my fears about the main oil seal.

Seems the cambelt rollers wern't in the best condition, so its probably just as well that I havent driven the car for the last 2 weeks.

Breathers all cleaned out (gunk central), and new camcover gasket and o rings fitted too.

Car is running very nicely, so roll on taking her to France in 3 weeks time  :D

Also, thank you thank you thank you for letting me drive your 3.2 V6, what a beast, I loved it, and blowing away that Audi A6 with barely a touch of the throttle was huge fun - but did I love your Omega as much as you liked going out for a spin in the DeLorean?   ;)

Thanks once again,

Omega General Help / X20XEV main oil seal
« on: 27 April 2012, 17:24:25 »
Hiya,

car has been in for a service today, and mechanic confirmed my fears, that the main oil seal is leaking.  He's put some stop leak in for now to see if it helps, but he said the leak is quite bad   :(

He's never done one before, and wondered if I could find out if its just a case of detatching the gearbox, or whether the sump has to come off too.

If someone can let me know, it would be appreciated, as then I can let the mechanic know and he can give me an idea on price to change it.

Just found out that the cambelt needs doing too, I thought it had been changed at 92k, but reading the book more closely (ie through the ink of the dealer stamps), the last time it was done was in 2003 at 39k - the car has now done 119k, and the book says it should be changed every 80k on the X20XEV.

Deepest joy.......   ::)  ::)  ::)

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / F/L Estate Load cover
« on: 11 April 2012, 14:56:01 »
Hi all,

a mod may have to move this, as I cant post in the FS & Wtd yet, but I'm after a load cover (plus the plastic bits that clip into the side trims) for a facelift estate.

I'm in Nottinghamshire, but my other half travels about with work (Cardiff/Yorkshire/London/Birmingham/Cheshire), so could possibly meet up with someone if there is one available.

I've been checking Ebay, but stuff on there is seems to be scrapyards offering stuff at high prices, or P/F estates.

cheers,

Cars for Sale & wanted / Omega Estate LPG wanted
« on: 20 March 2012, 17:53:21 »
(a mod will have to move this please)  :)

My sister in law is unsucessfully trying to persuade me to part with 'Morticia', as she wants to replace her ageing Merc 300D Avantgarde (usual built in rot problem with the W210 models, car has only done about 80k tho).

She's interested in LPG due to running costs, but hasnt told me if she wants manual or auto (she's got a manual Megane Cabrio, the Merc is Automatic).

I've been keeping an eye on Ebay, but the cars on there all seem to have problems, and there's no desperate rush, so if any of you are selling, or know of a Miggy estate, LPG, probably Automatic, thats in the £500-£800 price bracket, then give me a shout and I'll pass the info on.

SIL lives in Derbyshire, so if a car was local-ish to the Midlands/South Yorkshire/Cheshire, that would be ideal.

cheers,

Claire

Hi all,

my 2000MY facelift with CDR500 has a Nokia 'Bury' phone kit installed, which we need to remove, and we want to fit my Parrot CK3100 in its place.

We've bought the adaptor lead for the Parrot Kit already as per another thread on here.

Phill removed the head unit today, and managed to remove the metal cage that the unit sits in, but the metal cage sits inside a plastic cage, and he can see no way to get this out.  All the wiring for the exisiting phone kit is behind this, so we are a bit stumped as we cant see how to get to it.

Any advice on how to remove the plastic cage gratefully received.

cheers,

Claire

General Discussion Area / having trouble with club shop
« on: 23 February 2012, 20:08:14 »
hiya,

apologies if I've put this in the wrong place...

I'm trying to buy an OOF car sticker off the club shop for my car, but when I get to the bit to 'login', it asks for my email/password, and it comes up with no matches found.

So, thinking I've got the wrong password, I clicked on the 'forgot password' bit, and it doesnt recognise my email addy - and I've only got the one, so not sure whats going on here.

Can someone from Site Admin advise please?

Cheers,

Claire

General Car Chat / 1,000 mile report
« on: 18 February 2012, 16:08:25 »
so, I've had Morticia 7 weeks now, and I've done about 1000 miles.

How am I finding Omega ownership?  Well, more expensive then running an Astra Convertible on cooking oil, goes without saying, but I love the space and comfort in the car and its really nice to drive, even tho it is 'only' a 2.0 16v Ecowreck   ;)

There's a few niggly jobs to do, but I'm going to wait until the MOT man's verdict of the car on 2nd March before I start throwing money at it, I'd rather do it all in one go then bits here and there.  Need to fit my Parrot kit in it, plus sort out the door check straps - the NSF one clicks and the OSF one does sod all, and if you dont move your leg sharpish it gets trapped in the door as it shuts itself   :-[

I'm concerned the car has a coolant leak from somewhere, it was low on coolant when we picked it up, so we put some readymix antifreeze in it, and the other day on the way to the hospital, the car wouldnt get hot, the temp gauge was up and down like a hookers knickers and it wouldnt run on LPG.  When we pulled over, we found the coolant bottle empty again - we stopped at a garage, put 2.5L in it, and it was fine, and went back onto LPG ok too.  I checked it after a few days, and the level had dropped, so I put some more in it.  I'm hoping the level only dropped due to circulating round the system and air replacing the level in the bottle.  I'll check it again this weekend and see what its doing.  The car doesnt run hot tho, and the temp gauge always sits at just under 85 degrees, and the heater itself is excellent.

The problem with the car not running on LPG properly was found to be down to a blocked filter, luckilly we found one on Ebay (Prins unit), and swapping that cured the problem of the car acting like it was out of gas even with a full tank.

So all in all, yes the car needs some cosmetic work and I'm sure it will need other jobs next month after the MOT, but I have to say I'm really pleased with the car, and I hope she gives me several years of reliable and comfortable service.

The only thing really bugging me, is the small LPG tank, I can only squeeze 35L in it from empty, so I'm considering finding out if I can get a bigger tank, as my friend with a 2.2 Estate on LPG can get well over 40L in his car, I'm finding a range of 160-200 miles a pain in the neck tbh, and I could do with a better range for when we take her to France in June, but other then that, I really like the car   :)

Cheers,

Claire

Omega General Help / MPG Question (2.0 16v on LPG)
« on: 23 January 2012, 15:19:28 »
hi all,

well I filled 'Morticia' up for the 3rd time yesterday with LPG, and as normal the tank took just over 35 litres to fill up (£23.90).

However, my previous fill up only lasted 163 miles, which by my calculations is a pathetic 21mpg - I get that out of our 3.0 Avantime Auto on LPG, and would have thought that a 2.0 16v Auto would have done better then that.

If I'd have known that I was only gonna get 21mpg, I would have gone for a V6!

Could there be a problem with the car, or is this the sort of MPG I should expect bearing in mind most of my driving is local stuff, doing sometimes less then 2 miles a day, my longest runs being if I go to Derby, which is a round trip of 40 miles.

Any advice would be appreciated,

cheers,

Claire
