Smokey headlights.
« on: 12 June 2017, 13:44:56 »

Hi.
Chatting to a car guy the other day and he said toothpaste is excellent in cleaning and clearing foggy headlamps.
Don't know if it works but thought I would put it on here just incase it helps anyone.
Luckily mine are all clear.

toothpaste is ok, IF you just catch them in time I suppose, I have tried it. But I think the ONLY way of doing it properly, is to follow the guide on here, or if you have oodles of money, and just get lens replaced lol  ;D

G3 works quite well with a suitable polisher, I need to replace either the whole headlight or the lense on one of mine as it appears to be yellow on the inside.  >:(

This.

Toothpaste is a very fine abrasive, and will struggle to remove the grot on a headlight.

The key to doing this job efficiently is to use wet&dry(1000grit is usually enough) to start with, and restore the finish with a decent compound - G3 in my case. It's a small enough area that doing it by hand isn't a problem. This procedure takes me about 10minutes per lamp, without taking them off the car.
