Plenum update loose wire
« on: 05 November 2019, 14:40:45 »

Hi again. Well breathers done. Rockers back on. Starting rebuild and came across this wire. It originates in the thick loom as a black wire and goes into connector as in photo. Comes out brown. It is a clean break and I can’t see any loose ends elsewhere. Any pointers please.

Temperature sender maybe? Should have an uninsulated connector on the end. Does the temp gauge on the dash work?

Absolutely not :o

It's 12v live and runs from the coil pack primary feed to a suppressor that's Bolted to the back of the 246 head ;)

So do you mean it has come adrift from the large plug that connects to the coil pack connector ?

Ok, connect it directly to battery negative and switch the ignition on if you don't believe me.

No. I mean it has come adrfit from the suppressor.

Got you now. So what does the suppressor look like. Is it obvious. I guess that it is close to top judging by length of wire I have. Has it a connector?

Inch long box with a bolt tab on one end and the remnants of a broken wire sticking out.

Spot on as usual. Got suppressor off and the break is clean at the point it enters the plastic. What is the purpose of this item.

I can’t source a replacement so I think it is tape it up and forget it. Thanks again. Finish build up tomorrow and see if it will start. The breathers were clear and the rocker gaskets not apparently leaking but there was oil in two of the plug bores-one on each bank. All cleaned up. Next stop might be scrap!!!
