Post by: Lizzie Zoom on 21 December 2023, 17:01:38
Never had to replace one on an Omega, but how do you access the number plate bulb please?

Maybe simples I know, but at the moment I cannot see how and the way I am means I want things to be easy!!! :o :o

I did wonder why in the haynes book I noticed it instructed to open the boot first, for the saloon  :o

Well, I did what I shouldn't do at the moment and laid on the floor and found the clip to release the bulb unit, before getting into the inner part where the bulb was.  Bulb changed, so another thing off the list before the MOT in January. :y

To think the Vx dealer wanted £27 to do that! :o :o

Yes, and I am very grateful for all that guidance, even when it is a simple matter of changing a bulb, but after surgery.  It really helps  8) 8) 8) :y

My MOT tester failed me for a Dip beam bulb a few years ago, he fitted me one and when the Test bill came in I asked about the bulb as ther was no charge.  all I got was see you this time next year. :y :y

NTs are NOT allowed to fix or adjust anything when logged on to the VTS device during an MOT test    ;)
so they should enter it as a fail , then they can fix stuff if the customer agrees, then re-MOT

We noticed on the way in that... And took the liberty of fixing for before the test... :-\

NT can't "log on" without first doing a "walk round" to check the car is safe enough to MOT and also verify the VIN (if there is one)

anyone can fix things before or after test with permission  :)

Many testers don't read the manual or understand what it means  though   :P

a test should be done  "as presented"

so,,, for example ,,,, someone has their windscreen partly blocked with "magic tree air fresheners" might NOT  like the resulting certificate  ??? :P :-X

Which "that"  :-\
driver's view of the road obscured by sat navs ,magic tree ,fury dice etc
An NT would probably remove before test ,it's not worth the hassle of refusing a test ,then re-booking (test stations have to pay the DVSA a fee per test in blocks of 25)
an Traffic cop in a bad mood could ticket you
New AI cameras  could be set to ticket you by post when driving with tat in the window  :P

A few years back Mrs B's Citroen went to AN Other local tester (because I'd left it to the last minute .... ie the MOT had expired  :-X) he failed it for a duff rear bulb & then subsequently passed it after he'd fitted a new one. No charge for the new bulb but ....... fast forward some time, I discovered that he'd broken the rear cluster. Obviously I couldn't then prove it.
I hold my hands up for letting the MOT expire & not checking the car properly before submitting it for test ..... but he didn't hold his hands up for over tightening the cluster's thumb screw & breaking it  :-X
They say that most people don't complain about bad service but then never ever use that service provider again ..... count me in with 'most people'

I can never believe that some people think it's OK to stick their phone/satnav directly in front of them on the screen!!!!!

You would not believe the amount of cr*p I have had to remove before an MOT and things like dog cages to raise the rear seats to check belts.
