I would be tempted to put a nut & bolt in, then underseal it.  :-/

Is soaking again! Front passenger carpet is bone dry, scuttle drain is also totally clear. Rear door seal looks fine I cannot see any trace of water coming in from that. I really have no idea where this water is coming in from. ::)
had the same prob, all four grommets where off mine, smelled like a sewer. wadding in all floor wells was acting like a sponge. i got rid of wadding and front under rubber, put a bead of silicone around drain holes ,replaced grommets, the excess silicone that oozed out i spread back over the top edges of grommet, replaced underlay with standard carpet underlay(works perfect) changed carpets....smell gone and no leaks.make sure ye check all four grommets if ye miss one the smell will not leave

standard clear silicone sealant, yea same as mine, water in footwell was horrible, mine must have been wet for a while before i bought it, cabin was smelly every morning

i cant work out why grommets where out in the first place, i got four off a doner car and had to dig them out off their protective tar-like cover

had another look when i got back, drivers side has the grommit, passenger side does not  >:(

No idea why that is missing, would explain why after i vaxed it, it stayed dry over the summer, but is now soaking again.

At least i found the cause, will pick up some sealant tomorrow  :)

Are you sure that the previous owner didn't remove the plug to let water OUT?  :-? ;)

Its a clean hole, no damage around the tar like protection underneath, but its posssible. Maybe someone spilt large amount of fluid in there and they decided to take it out, but never put it back in? :-?

Also looking at Silcone sealant, all seams to be that bathroom stuff, would that be man enough to cope with the elements?  :-/

I believe it's not a good idea to use silicon, better off using mastic for caravans etc

black putty get it a little packet, water seal, hardens like filler, but flexable, bit like rubber. 50p most car stores.

I use Tetroseal underbody sealant I would also put some inside the car just cover with a bit of plastic film to stop it sticking to carpet or underfelt.
