Omega General Help / Brake test codes - Help!
« on: 24 June 2009, 22:28:06 »
Hi all,
further to previous posts I have made which needed error codes to progress, I have done my first pedal test which has given me this:-
. 0170
0173
0335
My car currently has problems with the following:-
- the engine emissions light is on with the car doing about 22mpg on a motorway 70mph run, not good.
- a mate with an Audi reader has told me that both lambda sensors are giving error codes so either both sensors are gone or maybe the cat itself(?) Can't remember exactly what he said the codes meant
- the car will start only when the engine is cold but will then run all day ( but sometimes cuts out on idle when heating up, will keep going if car is being driven) but if engine is turned off and left for 10 minutes it will not start again until it is completely cool again.
- Xenon headlights are not self-levelling. Computer says 'low beam fld/vision'

Can anyone tell me what the codes mean? Is there an index of the codes available on this site? :-[

Omega General Help / Is my cat fubar?
« on: 20 June 2009, 17:51:48 »
My car's emission warning light is showing and it's doing about 23mpg on a long run, which is poor. Both lambda sensors are showing error codes (lean burn I think my mate said) so is it likely that both lambda sensors are faulty or could it be that the cat needs replacing?
The car has had both heads skimmed due to head gasket problems (before I bought it). Could this have buggered the cat?

Omega General Help / Hot starting
« on: 15 June 2009, 12:02:28 »
Hi all, my 2001 Elite estate will not start when the engine is anything other than cold. It will run all day after starting but if left for about 10 mins after switching off it will not start again until cold. Any ideas? Coil is one theory!

Anyone got one of those nets that stop a load encroaching on the passengers in an estate?

General Car Chat / Massive thank you to JamesMV6
« on: 13 March 2011, 21:06:30 »
James came round today to do my cambelt for nothing. As ever, he was pleasant and cheerful and explained everything as he worked, to me, a relative amateur  :)

Turns out it was a timely change, I bought the car not knowing exactly when the belt was last changed and it was definitely on its last legs, showing small crazing patterns on its surface. The aux belt was even worse, with deep cracks showing all over. The timing belt cover had seen better days too, someone had snapped it clean in half at some point, making it difficult to replace without rubbing on one of the pulleys, making an 'uncomfortable' noise.

James was in fact reluctant to leave the car as it was, but having seen the way he had meticulously gone through everything, I knew that it was nothing serious, and I'm happy to report that it's now quiet as a mouse, as both of us suspected  :y

So thank you once again James, I have no hesitation about recommending your work to anyone  :y

I was also quite embarrassed about the fact that he did it free of charge, but he's a genuine Omega enthusiast and enjoys meeting new people and passing on his knowledge to us mortals  :y

Cheers mate,

Jon

General Car Chat / Have you tried this?
« on: 22 October 2009, 12:41:59 »
I was taking my little 'un to school today, had to cross a busy road in the rain then realised I hadn't locked my car. Tried the remote locking but I was too far away. Then I remembered Jeremy Clarkson holding the remote to his head to amplify the signal on an episode of Top Gear. It worked, right from the other side of the road! Anybody else got a head as empty as mine?   ;D

General Car Chat / Weight of a wheel
« on: 20 October 2009, 20:47:42 »
How much approximately in kilos will a 17 inch facelift elite wheel and tyre weigh? I need to know because I've won a wheel on eGay but the seller won't post it ( >:() and I've got to arrange a courier service to pick it up. Therefore I've got to know the approximate weight.
I can't get one of mine off yet cos I've lost my locking wheel nut key  :-[

General Car Chat / BMW 5 series
« on: 19 July 2009, 15:50:35 »
When I was looking for a new car recently, I bought my Omega but I also had my eye out for a 5-series estate. These were pretty much out of my price range though, unless I wanted an older twin-headlamp shape. I've gotta say, I'm extremely happy with what I bought, but would anyone here concede that the BM's a better car?

General Car Chat / Air con question
« on: 06 July 2009, 14:22:39 »
I know that you use aircon to cool the car down when it's hot, but what's the point of using aircon (and the extra petrol) on the warm setting? I know it de-humidifies the air, but is there any other benefit to using it on warm? I mean, might as well just use the heater eh?  Something I've just wanted to know  :)

General Car Chat / Some advice needed
« on: 02 July 2009, 12:06:30 »
Hi all,
Apologies in advance because not only am I a newbie to Omegas and this forum, I've never been on any other forums either.
I need a new crank sensor for my car and I've seen a lot of people mention that it's cheaper with OOF discount or trade discount. I'm gonna get a genuine part from VX on a few OOF'ers advice but would I be able to get any money off somehow?

General Car Chat / Aarrgghh!!
« on: 28 June 2009, 19:52:03 »
Recently bought my first Omega, seemingly too good to be true for the price, drove it and it seemed perfect. Since then the problems have been piling up and now today the sunroof has stopped working!  >:(  Seems like a heck of a lot can go wrong with these cars. May have to re-mortgage my house if this carries on...

SWMBO and I went for a walk up a mountain today (we do that sort of thing now and again) and saw this lying on the top

Apparently an inexperienced amateur pilot flew into fog around Christmas time and hit the mountain top, flipping the plane over. He had to make his way down to some nearby houses to get help but only had minor injuries  :)

It must have been bloody freezing though, it was cold enough today and blowing a gale - someone's had the good sense to tie the plane down since then  ;D
