ABS/TC
« on: 24 June 2007, 12:10:08 »

Right, when I put her in Park or Reverse she regulaly stalls. Not everytime, bout 50% of the time
When I start her back up the ABS and the TC lights are on. Tried disconecting/reconnectiong the battery and that seemed to work.
As soon as she stalled again the TC and ABS lights came back on, and are on all the time now

Any thoughts fellas! :)

ICV may be one reason for stalling.  Do the ABS/TC lights go out after 30s or so? Does SRS/Airbag light do similar sometimes?

Whats ICV?  :-/

No, the lights dont go out, they were on when I parked up last night, and still on when I went out this morning. The SRS light does not come on at all, just the TC/ABS

ICV is your idle control valve, if faulty or filthy, it can stick and keep the revs high, or stall

when mine stalled a couple of times, i had it cleaned out along with throttle body and breathers, this cured it, as for lights staying on... someone else can help you i'm sure :y

Only true way to find out why it has lit up ABS/TC lights is plug it in to Tech1 or 2 (depending on age).  If a post 98 car, these have a habit of failing ECUs

Its a 97 R.

I have no idea why but the lights went out after I pulled/put back the ICV thats (idle control valve) for those that dont know! ;D :D ;D ;D
Anyways pulled it off, gave it a bit of a wipe, well the bits I could get to anyway, and no lights when I fired her up :)

Wifes just come back from shoping and lights are back on, along with the stalling thing! :(

So what it the most reilable way of cleaning the icv?

Carb cleaner. Cover one of the openings and fill it, cover other opening & then shake vigorously. Repeat untill the carb cleaner comes out clean.

As said above - carb cleaner. About £4 from Motorserv in Wolverton Mill.  Give it a good dose of that, then when clean, pop a couple of drops of light oil (3in1, sewing machine etc oil)....
