Are the H1-Osram-Night-Breakers any good?
« on: 06 July 2015, 14:20:30 »

Are the H1-Osram-Night-Breakers any good and will it be a simple straight swap on my Omega 2.2 CD 2003?

These are the ones I want to fit, unless you know of any better legal ones that I can just swap over?

Thanks

Be wary buying branded parts from egay - a couple of years ago it was estimated that over 90% of supposedly branded parts on egay were far east fakes.

That price looks about average as well

Had excellent results with them - I buy from AutobulbsDirect. If I'm feeling cheeky I ring them and ask for a discount code, pointing to the hundreds of pounds Ive spent with them...

I have to say I didn't notice much difference to normal bulbs - to the point that when 1 blew after only a couple of months (and Osram said bad luck) I put a standard bulb in and I'm not sure which is which now!

Osram Nightbreakers and Phillips Vision Plus are a bit brighter, but the durability of the bulbs is lower than bog standard bulbs.

Yes straightforward swap, few minutes each side and as for the brightness, I think they are better but not by as much as they claim.
Thats my experience anyway.

Are they superior to the HID's on my MV6?

Different bulbs - you have HID dipped beams and halogen mains, which can be replaced with Nightbreakers and the like.

If you HID's have good clear lenses and new bulbs then they are much much brighter and better colour temperature.

Fitted them to mine last week and definitely a whiter light output but not sure if it made that much difference to how far I could see with them compared to originals but would buy them again.

In my experience they last a month if you're lucky. Total crap.

Never ever had any other "standard" halogen fail. Ever.

Fitted these for the supposed better output and both were back out within the month due to failure. Nice.

They do have a shorter life. Not sure if that is due to the increased output or associated heat. But my last set was a few years ago. I think it was a Philips 110+. Certainly lasted 8 months plus and then I sold the car. The set before lasted just over a year. Premature failure may be related to fingerprints/oil on the bulb during installation.

When I got my Elite I was shocked by the feeble orange glow from the (halogen) main beam compared to the HID dip.

I fitted Osram nightbreakers because they give a whiter light and a bit more light output. The old lamps compared so badly to the HID dip that I often didn't bother using main :(

Statistically that argument makes little sense over a 12yr period ;)

Maybe I'm just lucky  :)

The Phillips ones in the Battlebus have been in for well over a year, no issues.

Yes, I now use the Philips ones and get circa 18 months out of them which is about the same as the OEM ones given the fact they are on for very long periods many times a day  :y

I have had the Osram nightbreakers in my Elite for main beam for about 4 years / 70,000 miles.

The HID dip beams get used for hours at a time but the mains don't get anywhere near so much use which is why they have lasted.
