Thanks for advice gentlemen. Testing this morning, performance is indeed disc sensitive. I put in 6 discs, initially all 6 worked, then one, a Sidney Bechet disc.failed. I put it into a different slot, it loaded twice, 3rd time it failed again. Other 5 were fine.
Changer is quite useable, indeed I am impressed that the whole system works as well as it does after 15 years. Sound quality is good..
Bar code number is 7 607 797 321 Dave. Have you idea of the cost of a new laser, and is fitting a DIY matter?

Genuine Blaupunkt lasers now discontinued, which is why we are unable to assist

Aftermarket lasers can very from £30 ~£80 but you will need to get someone to fit it and then calibrate it for you, as this model requires some extensive tweaking to set the laser up correctly

Thanks Dave. I have been running it in magazine Random mode for 2 weeks now, and disc now is now deemed missing. I can live with this. Buying a 15 year old car I expect a few imperfections.
I used to have a lens cleaning disc. Do these work, and might it help in this cse?

Lens cleaning should only ever be done with a lint free cotton bud, and very carefully. Those cleaning discs just knock hell out of the focus coils, but as yours is so knackered now, then probably isn`t going to make it any worse.

I have never found lens cleaning discs effective on other CD readers. Is gaining access to the lens reasonably easy with the unit on the bench?
