Instead of welding, why not look at cleaning back to good metal and then using a good (3M) panel bonder to bond a plate into place on each side?

No heat to worry about that way.

Example eBay number 174394858784

Obviously you can buy cheaper than that, but as an example.

Do smoked indicators last longer than unsmoked ones?  :)

No, but they fit non-FL black mouldings nicely compared to those silly orange lumps that look out of place, especially when all other indicators are smoked or clear from factory

TB, check back on one of my old threads, had wet foot wells and the sound padding on the bulkhead was dry.

Had rust at the joins with the bulkhead, chassis and inner wing. There are photos on there to show you what I had if it helps

Change the thermostat (comes with housing).  Common problem.

To confirm, if the live data of the temperature sensors show them both rising at similar rates (one on thermostat housing, one on radiator) this will confirm diagnosis.

There was a TSB for the wiring on some aircon models rubbing through but normally just the stat assembly.

Yep, should be 1.2w but VX supplies 2.0w bulbs under original part number

Whatever dealer supplied. They look like 1.2W bulbs (small pencil bulbs) in a green bulb holder and cannot be separated from the bulb holder.

That is what made me ask the question, the old bulbs go right between the plastic pieces but look awfully close

Just wondering if anyone else has suffered the same problem I have last week with a climate panel?

Basically, the backlight illumination had quickly gone dull but the temperature displays were good.

Had to take the radio out for something else so continued the strip-down of the panel. I was unable to remove the little green bulb holders so took the assembly completely apart to the circuit board to find that the bulbs had completely melted the little plastic lighting strips so no light could pass through. As soon as I tried to twist and remove the bulbs the plastic strips literally broke into little 1cm or so long sections. Was almost as if the bulbs were too powerful and getting too hot.

These were bulbs from VX about 2 or maybe 3 years ago, not generic ones.

I have put another panel in and some new bulbs (generic 1.2w ones this time) but was interested to see if this is a common problem or not?

Loads of cars getting nicked with spec lifts round that London ways, grab it and off with a minute

Pikeys or Romanians

Neither, tow vehicle was taxed, MOT’d and insured.

Round our way, there would be no MOT or tax (civil, not criminal offences) and plates come back to that vehicle

Apparently happened 2 roads from one of my colleagues in Abbey wood SE London.

Not quite sure of the exact story behind it all but was not staged, a lot of very upset people and at least 2 written off cars
