Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Need some parts
« on: 25 April 2022, 11:18:55 »
So... Couple of bits I need to continue.

Firstly some of the 3-way fuel pipe clips under the car... As many as possible as most of mone were knackered even before I started...

And also the steering clamp, the UJ that joins the steering column to the top of the steering box.

If anyone has them kicking around...! :y

Omega General Help / Another simpleton question
« on: 21 April 2022, 18:37:46 »
This one I definitely can't find the photo for... where on earth does the headlight ECU mount? I know it's up under the OSF wing but can I bugger remember where... a photo would be handy!

I thought I'd noted which fuel pipe from the tank was the feed and which was the return. I haven't.

I'm plumbing from the tank to the filter and then onwards - if I'm standing at the back bumper facing forwards, fuel pipes coming out the top of the tank - is it the O/S is the feed and N/S the return?

Helpfully the top of the pump has an arrow slap bang between the two...

(Yes I'm a dimwit, hush)

Omega General Help / Headlight sensor re engineering
« on: 04 April 2022, 08:52:00 »
I keep looking at the headlight sensors and their current cable tied state.

If I drill through the centre and put a bar through, a bearing on each, and bolt it through the centre, that will presumably destroy the workings of the sensor?

I wonder if i can fatten the balls (shush) in the joints to make them fit better and not pop out?

General Car Chat / ACTUAL IMPORTANT ADVICE
« on: 01 April 2022, 20:42:39 »
***ACTUALLY IMPORTANT***

A few weeks ago I posted about how my grinder disc exploded and nearly took my head off. At the time I put it down to me being a cack handed moron (still true) or having used an older disc.

I've just opened a new box of cutting doscs that I bought from Aldi in recent weeks. The outer box says BBE May 23... But the discs wrapped up inside are BBE Sept 21 (!!!)

For the love of God if you have any Ferrex discs (or I'd imagine the same tyoe from Lidl as they stock similar in the aisle of unnecessary expense)... CHECK THE DATES. The thicker grinding and cutting doscs habe the same but I'm less worried about them doing an Oddjob on me.

Rest assured I've already contacted Aldi to make a fuss and hopefully issue a recall before some poor sod comes a cropper.

Omega General Help / Underbody diagrams
« on: 30 March 2022, 18:18:05 »
Just a quick one... Since I'm working on a moon mileage ex plod car, I don't trust that things I have taken off were necessarily attached in the right place to start with.

Whilst I'm doing the great reset, I've taken loads of photos - but are there any diagrams or photos of the underneath so I can see where the brake and fuel pipes should run, as opposed to the wonky mess I removed? I'm probably going to end up replacing a lot of the mounts but if I have them in the right place...

As an aside, I'm currently far from the car. Most of the studs for attaching the clips are in reasonable order - are they a particular thread such that I can spin on a new clip with a standard sized nut and washer? If not... I'll lop them off and drill through for a new wee bolt...

Omega General Help / Rear teack arms bolts
« on: 12 March 2022, 12:57:04 »
A pair of new rear track rod doofers has arrived, which is jolly exciting... Lemforder 16243 01 (019), fact fans.

Usually I would have measured the old bolts that attach them inboard. But as already documented, a- they weren't done up properly, and b, they lost a fight with the grinder and were promptly lobbed in the bin.

What size are they supposed to be, so I can add them to the list for going to the Fastener Warehouse of Joy?

General Car Chat / A drum of many screenwash cheap at ECP
« on: 05 March 2022, 11:19:02 »
Neither the company nor the screenwash are world class however they currently have 25 litre drums of their -15 screen wash concentrate for £20.

In case anyone is interested :y

If nothing else I can sell it to the local yoot as a new cider...

Omega General Help / 3.2 big end bearings - where from?
« on: 04 March 2022, 21:28:57 »
Getting ready to strip the engine fully. I've been advised that it will probably need a set of bottom end bearings... But where would I get them from? Everywhere online seems to A-direct to Autodoc and B - be out of stock.

I'd like to prepare myself if it does need them rather than furiously Googling with oily mitts... :y

General Car Chat / Oil proof sealant...
« on: 01 March 2022, 17:17:15 »
While I'm plodding through my rebuild I'm going to need some suitable sealant for the sump, the oil cooler, etc.

Any recommendations for a biiiig cartridge that I can use with a sealant gun rather than me messing about with un-Pete-friendly little tubes? I'm figuring it will work out better value and more importantly I can control it better with my fists of ham...

Omega General Help / I think I'm being really thick (aircon bracket)
« on: 24 February 2022, 12:10:39 »
In my mission to strip and clean every last bit of the car, I'm on with the engine. I've removed the aircon pump and PAS pumps. The bracket that the aircon pump sits through, on the NS of the engine... I've undone all the bolts I can see and it moves but it won't come off.

I assume Ive missed a bolt or connector somewhere... Do I need to remove the timing cover to get in to something? I am trying not to just use brute force and ignorance for once... :y

Omega General Help / Diff bushes (not the NLA mounts)
« on: 14 February 2022, 17:42:04 »
https://flic.kr/p/2n3C96m

These bushes photographed at about 12 and 6 o clock (position, not time of day). Are they available... And if so what the deuce am I searching for?

I may or may not have some along with new trailing arm bushes but they're in the same safe place I've put my locking wheel key so I'm probably going to end up with a spare set...

Omega General Help / Locking wheel nut key
« on: 14 February 2022, 10:45:09 »
So... The famous GK organisation skills come into play again. I haven't got a scooby where my locking wheel nut key is... Other than it'll turn up in about six months in somewhere stupid.

Anyone able to tell me what key number these are... And indeed if anyone has one kicking around? :D

Omega General Help / Fuel pipe options
« on: 07 February 2022, 16:03:41 »
Got the underbody stripped and the fuel pipes are a little less fuel tight than I would like. I don't need it to look factory, I just need it to be safe and proper.

Ive marked all the pipes up for which ones go where - can I get some made up in stainless (by someone who isn't a cack handed Northern oaf)  and use decent clips and fuel hose to make the connections... Or do the high pressure
ones need something similar to the old (brittle) plastic clips?

I've had to get all violent to get the old steering clamp off. I know, it's so unlike me to use brute force and ignorance.

So I need a new one. Its the lower column joint, clamps onto the box splines and the lower steering column. 13mm head bolt one side and a mildly irritating torx on the other end... Though I'll be heading to my local fastener emporium to get a suitable hex head to replace that.

Anyone got one in... Or a good source of new ones?
