General Discussion Area / Virgin (media, not an intact female!!)
« on: 15 November 2011, 12:35:34 »
I currently have a Virgin Media package that includes phone line with free weekend calls and XL TV for which my monthly bill is always around £41. Decided it was time to upgrade so phoned them up and told the sales advisor that I no longer needed the phone line (never use it and it's £13.95pm) but wanted to add 10MB broadband and Tivo box. He gave me a price of £48 per month including the removal of the phone line so I agreed to go ahead. After giving me an installation date (07/01/12!!!) he said he would transfer me to the installations dept. to get the phone line cancelled. Got put through to a really helpful guy who apologised but explained that as my new order was now on their system, he couldn't cancel the phone line without cancelling the order and starting again.....hmmmm! He then told me that his installtion team were allowed to quote for upgrades and could often better the prices from the sales team by way of loyalty discounts and he could offer a discount for me as I've been with them for over 10 years. He ended up offering me the same package but keeping the phone line for £45.90 per month for 2 years. Needless to say I was well happy and accepted. :y :y
I think there's a moral to the story here which is, don't talk to the driver, talk to the oily rag. ::) ;D

Well, having been thinking about parting with my beloved MV6 for a long time now due to economic reasons, we finally parted company today. :'( Ljay is now the proud new owner having been after it for a long time - congratulations Laura, I know it's in good hands with you and Jimbob.
Now James is temporarily out of work he's going to have a bit spare time to pamper it with a bit care and attention! ::)
Absolutely gutted to part with it but with a 50 mile a day commute to work and the price of fuel it was just becoming too much.
Anyway, I won't be disappearing from the forum as I've made far too many friends on here over the years so I'll still be around. :y
Oh yes, and my new car is...............erm, a Mk3 Ford Mondeo 2.0TDCI Ghia X Estate on a 52 plate. It's actually not bad and very comfortable but my Omega it ain't. ::) .........and yes, I'll still be barbequing at the odd OOF meet. :y
Congrats again Laura and I'm sure it'll give you as much enjoyment as it's given me over the years. :-* :y

General Car Chat / Quiet diff at last
« on: 20 October 2011, 13:24:09 »
Finally located a replacement diff to replace the whining diff in my estate and had it topped up with new oil and fitted yesterday. Located it through find-a-part.com and got it from Carquip UK (VX breaker in Kings Lynn) for £98.70 including packing and delivery charges.
My car had a slight whine when I bought it 4.5 years ago but had got worse in the last year, but I had kinda got used to it. Oh what bliss to have a nice quiet one. :y

General Discussion Area / Japanese Grand Prix
« on: 10 October 2011, 13:20:47 »
Well, no surprises Vettel clinched his 2nd World Championship. ::) Vettel and Red Bull have been a damn formidable team and they thoroughly deserved it - just a shame none of the others were able to take the fight to them this year. Yet another superb drive from Jenson who just keeps getting better and better, but WTF has happened to Lewis?? He just doesn't seem to have the aggression and confidence he had in his championship winning year and yet another incident with Massa! Wonder if he'll still be at McLaren next year. :-\
Vettel's championship aside, it was a great race - once again, the Pirelli tyres and DRS are making for some good action on the track. :y
Oh, and Jaime......keep outta this thread!! ::) ;D

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Hazards flashing when car is locked
« on: 26 February 2009, 09:44:54 »
My ex-missus phoned me last night to say she has a problem with her Omega electrics. Every time she locks the car either with the remote fob or manually with the key, the hazard lights start flashing although no alarm sounds. She had the battery tested at a garage and they told her it was knackered and replaced it, but the problem is still there.

Some months ago she had a tow bar fitted and has since had intermittent problems with the indicators and hazards and I suspect it might have something to do with it. At the time, she took the car back to the place that fitted the tow bar but they said there was nothing wrong.

She's now unable to lock her car as she doesn't want to run the new battery down due to the hazard lights constantly flashing. Any idea's?

Omega General Help / diff ratio's
« on: 22 September 2011, 13:13:28 »
I know this has probably been asked before but will a diff from a 2.6 auto estate be compatible with a 3.2 auto estate? Not sure if the ratio's are the same. :-/

Anyone know the part No. and best place to get these from.
Last year I had one replaced and it cost a whopping £76.00 inc. fitting! :o I'm sure they must be cheaper online.

Omega General Help / MID check warning?
« on: 27 September 2010, 18:38:32 »
I know this has been covered before but can't find the threads. I'm getting Low Beam Fld/vision check coming up on the MID - what is the cause?

Omega General Help / Outside temp sensor
« on: 01 February 2010, 12:46:25 »
Right, I'm getting really hacked off with mine!! It recently started working only intermittently so since then I've tried 2 spare temp sensors and connectors and repaired a connection in the wires with a good connector and now it doesn't work at all, all I get is "F" in the MID. I can only think there'e possibly another bad connection further back in the wiring loom or something else is amiss. If anyone has any further idea's I'd be grateful as it's playing havoc with my climate control. :'(

Omega General Help / Radiator
« on: 30 January 2010, 12:31:14 »
Following on from my "leaky plumbing" thread I had a pressure test done and it turns out there is a leak from the radiator. Am I better off getting a genuine VX replacement or will a pattern be ok and what sort of price am I looking at? I've looked at a couple of websites and pattern rads appear to be around the £100 mark.

Omega General Help / Leaky plumbing
« on: 27 January 2010, 17:29:06 »
I appear to have sprung a small leak somewhere. At first I thought I might have an HG on the way out as I've noticed a bit of mayo on the oil filler and cap and was losing a small quantity of coolant. However on further investigation there's definitely a leak. I've checked under the car for the last couple of days and there's a small wet patch on the ground under the front of the car (passenger side) and looks like it could be from the radiator area. Any idea's as to what's in that area that might be the cause? Hopefully the mayo in the filler/cap (nothing on dipstick) is due to doing a few short journey's recently. :-/

Omega General Help / Central locking question
« on: 10 November 2009, 13:32:38 »
Seems like the drivers door central locking is getting a bit "lazy". When locking the car all doors lock except driver door, then all locks open again. Second attempt usually works ok. Same thing in reverse when unlocking, takes 2 attempts to get the drivers door to unlock.
Is this just a simple case of getting the mechanism lubricated or something more?

Omega General Help / Braking problem
« on: 14 July 2009, 17:11:29 »
This is a pretty strange one. A few months ago I had my geometry done at WIM and Tony asked me if the car had a tendency to pull to the left. As it did (although slight) Tony said he could adjust the sub-frame to correct it, which he did. Some time after I noticed that when braking quite firmly the car moved to the right although the steering wheel did not move. I have to correct this by turning the wheel slightly to the left. Last week the car went into my local garage for new rear discs and pads and I told them about this problem and they said they would check the brake balance after the new discs and pads were fitted. They said that under test the brake balance was perfect but they did notice the pull to the right but could not find out the reason. I've since contacted Tony at WIM and he said the sub-frame adjustment should not cause this problem as it was correcting a problem that was there in the first place, but he has offered to check it out for me if need be.
Before I make another trip to WIM, has anyone got any ideas of anything else that might cause this? :-/

Omega General Help / Coolant check sensor
« on: 14 April 2009, 16:39:31 »
Check Coolant level came up on the MID a couple of days ago but coolant level is fine so I'm guessing the sensor is faulty. I seem to remember reading on threads of the same nature that it will probably mean a new header tank with sensor.

Is there anything I can check or do first before getting it replaced?
