Advice on a loose hose on my 2.2cd please
« on: 24 February 2014, 14:59:01 »

got car back last week after getting new cylinder head gasket replaced. now getting a 0443 regarding emissions. Anyway found this pipe doing nothing and don't remember it being there before. Appears to be at least 12 inches Long and not connected to the block. Anyone any ideas . could it be a breather pipe that the garage have replaced?or should it be connected to something that I cannot find and is giving me the error code. I know there was a breather pipe at the back of the block but cannot remember it being so long.

Any pics?

The only pipe that should have an open end is the gearbox breather.  :y

looks like auto box breather to me although it should bend through 180 degress at the top and point down to stop water ingress.

It possible is I just brought it up to take picture. But cannot remember it being this long. think a will need to get under the car to see if it is coming from the auto box or if anyone else has any idea. save me climbing under the car. it's just the error code that's annoying.

The error code (0443) is the  Fuel Tank Ventilation Valve, I bet they have either broken it or forgot to reconnect the electrical connector, it lives at the rear of the cylinder head.

pipe is 100% definitely the gearbox breather pipe ... In my own experience you have not allot of room at the back of the engine to work with, it's easier if you have skinny hands though.
be thankful it's not the heater bypass valve  :D

that tube should be down the back of the engine! Every one I have seen that's had a head gasket done has had this pipe moved to the side like yours  ::)
Never seen one that high before though lol

Was down the back of the block as I said in earlier post just brought it up to take pic.  Didn't think breather tube was that long.

It needs to be a decent length to be high enough to prevent water or road crap ingress into the gearbox if the car is driven in 'challenging' conditions, and it should have a moulded double bend 'hook' on the end to loop it over something high up at the back of the engine bay :y
