General Discussion Area / Nokia 6300 replacement
« on: 10 November 2009, 20:55:30 »
It appears that SWMBO's contract phone is ready to for an upgrade, which coincides nicely with the failed float test on my Nokia 6300  ;D  ;D  ;D
Her My new phone will be a 6303. So ..... I'll ask the question I asked when I got my 6300 hand-me-down .... any recommendations on where or not to send it for unlocking from its current provider to mine? It seems the place I sent my old phone is no longer. :-?  :y
Do I even need to send it off? Can it be unlocked with a code?

Or should I just take it to Mohamed on Bury market? ::) ::) :y

General Discussion Area / bl00dy phone (mobile)
« on: 08 November 2009, 21:18:39 »
Last week I 'float tested' my mobile phone (Nokia 6300 - it makes phone calls!) down the pan!
It failed & sank!  :'(  :-?  ::)
So I whipped the battery out and left it for a couple of days in the cupboard where the boiler lives in the warmth.
I dismantled it, gave the contacts between the boards a clean with switch cleaner, rebuilt it, put the battery back in and gingerly turned it on and  :-/ ..... it sprang into action!!!!!  :y
It worked fine for a couple of days, and then nothing .....  :'( there was just the 2 lights on either side.
So ...... I dismantled it again, cleaned it it up with more switch cleaner, & thought WTF and blasted the guts of it with afore mention switch cleaner!   :-? amd it worked!!!
I've used it daily since last week and it still appears to work, only today I've lost my signal!  :(
How can I have lost all bars of my signal when it's been working great all week?
Suggestions on a post card please

Yes! I know... I need a new phone, but it's bugging me the fact it's been working fine for a week, & it still starts up OK but has no signal ...  :-?  :-?  :-?

I used to travel this bit of road most weekends and even in my Manta many years ago it was a quick bit of raod, 166 is pretty quick though. If it's the exact bit I'm thinking of it's almost 2 miles & virtually straight.

SWMBO is watching some bloody 'talent' show on telly.
I can't stand it, & I'm not watching even though I can hear the bloody thing loud & clear  :-X How much longer do I have to sit at the PC?  :(
I'm still waiting to watch the series that's was on BBC1 each evening this week, but of the 2 of us I'm 2nd on the pecking list of what's on telly!  :-/

General Discussion Area / retrospective limits for MP's
« on: 13 October 2009, 13:03:09 »
It funny how MP's are getting upset over retrospective limits imposed for their expense claims but it was OK for retrospective road tax charges to be imposed on us Plebs .....  ::)  ::)  ::)

It doesn't bear thinking about how much pain this young girl must've been in. In all honesty I wouldn't have known that something as innocuous as plaster of Paris would have heated up to this degree. I'd have compared it to having an old style plaster cast on a broken arm/leg/etc .... but obviously not.  :(

« on: 30 September 2009, 20:23:03 »
SWMBO was on her way home from work this afternoon, she'd come to a stop as the car in front was turning right ..... but the car behind her didn't!!!  :o :o She was pushed forward into the car infront of her causing minor paint work to the front of her car & the back of the little Mitsubishi Colt in front. The back of her Astra however ....... the boot floor is substantially creased and the rear nearside door is fouling against the D post that has been pushed forwards up to it & there's now a huge gap between the nearside of the hatch & the rear near side quarter!  :o  :o  :o
Perfect timing too as the insurance is up for renewal in less than a fortnight  :-/  :-/  :-/

At least nobody died!  :y  :y  :y  :y

and while not trying to be a cliche  ::) ..... she does have a sore neck/shoulders and a sore knee, presumably from where her foot was on the brake pedal.

The mother of the girl who went into the back of SWMBO's Astra says it couldn't have been that hard because there's not much damage to the front of her/their car. err? at least a bonnet, bumper & slam panel.  :-X :-X

General Discussion Area / G4 led lamps
« on: 03 October 2009, 23:02:42 »
I was looking at replacing some/all of the spot light lamps in my caravan  ::)  for the led type, partly cos they'll last longer than the halogen and also for the reuced current draw. I notice that some are ordinary led's and others are surface mounted ......

Is there a prefered type to buy?

I have a set of wheels that NickV6 in west midlands wants. Does anyone expect to be passing Manchester-ish on their way to 'west Midlands' at some time?

General Discussion Area / CRB checks
« on: 01 October 2009, 13:06:02 »
Is a CRB check worth anything at all. All the talk the other week that was to require parents transporting their kids mates to football, swimming events etc to have a check on them, jut shows that they're targeting the wrong people. Scum like those in the news will never miss an opportunity to put them selves into the postitions/jobs they want.

General Discussion Area / Classified section
« on: 17 August 2009, 21:06:27 »
I see that another for sale thread is due to be deleted (Jamie is just jealous of caravans  ::))
I can think of a Senator & an Astra that has had its for sale thread pulled because it's not an Omega or bits of.
Is there any reason why we couldn't have a classified section as long as it's not abused by the 'Traders'? As long as any dealings with members are amicable etc what harm is there?
