General Discussion Area / hydraulic seals
« on: 01 February 2009, 21:50:04 »
20 odd years back SWMBO bought me a trolly jack, it even came with a spare set of seals. So, when I was swapping over over my 'new' alloys and the jack decided to die on me, I thought .... 'no problem, I know exactly where the spare seal kit is, I'll fit it later ...'
I've stripped the jack down to componant level, got the cup seal out of the bag (I've known exactly where it was all these years ::)) and the f***er disintegrated on me!!
I've had a look on the net but can't find where I might get a seal.
It's a Master Mechanic TJ4000 - that's what Machine Mart use isn't it? -
I know I can buy another jack ..... but I want to repair this one!
Any ideas of where I can get a seal .... I've even got pictures and part numbers. ;D  ;D

General Discussion Area / Nissan Primera
« on: 27 January 2009, 20:33:21 »
I know!!!  ::) But a work mate has just bought one ......  :-/ Honest!!!  ;)
He's had some tyres replaced and now the car is complaining that it can't detect the low tyre pressure warning sensors. The hand book unsurprisingly says to return the car to the nearest Datsun Nissan dealer to have the system reset.
Anyone any ideas how to do yourself? Can it be done without a Nissan type Tech II?  :-/  :-/  :y  :y  :y

General Discussion Area / Astra EML 52 plate 16v 1600cc
« on: 10 December 2008, 18:17:31 »
Right then SWMBO phoned me on her way home from work to tell me her EML was on - had been flashing but now constant. It's the lamp with the engine symbol.
When she'd driven the few miles home I thought about connecting my Cheapo Tech II, but that meant going across town to get my Dad's laptop, then I remembered about the 'pedal trick' so ..... it flashed 10 ... 3 ... 10 ... 2 which I know is 0302 and means  ... apparently  :-/ a mis-fire on number 2 pot. (I thought the fault flashed up on the engine light however it flashed up on the engine + spanner light :-?)
It's cold & I really don't want to be under the bonnet at the moment but has anyone had a similar fault with their 4 pot DBW Omega & fixed it with other than a new coil pack?

I even taught 'my expert' a new trick -- he'd never heard of the 'pedal trick' .... but there again he has his own Tech I & II  ;)

General Discussion Area / iPods
« on: 31 December 2008, 19:37:34 »
SWMBO has mythered for an iPod for ages. I've heard at various times that they can be pain regarding loading music etc using iTunes. Despite this I bought her one this Christmas- 16Gb Nano.
Connecting it up to the PC it started to load up every bit of music the PC had stored on it. The downside is that she now has stuff like Marilyn Manson & Slipknot that my lad has put on the PC.  :-?  :-?  ;D  ;D
I've had a look at it and tried to get shut of stuff that's on her iPod and although I stopped it from loading up music automatically I can't seem to be able to delete from it, to start again. My daughter's boyfriend seems to think I'd have to delete from the PC stuff I do NOT want loading to the iPod .... that can't be right  .... can it?? :-/
So ....... in simpe terms ... HTF do you delete from an iPod?

It's a piece of cake on my little mp3 player. :y

General Discussion Area / unlocking a Nokia 6300
« on: 31 October 2008, 18:33:38 »
A long story due to SWMBO having had her phone nicked ....
I've now been given her new replacement Nokia 6300  :-? which is locked to Vodafone.
I've had a quick look on Google as to how I might be be able to unlock it, some seem to say it can be unlocked, others mention 'BB5' and say it can't be unlocked.
Any suggestions  :-/? Or do I just take it to a market stall & pay up so I can use it with my O2 SIM?  ;)

General Discussion Area / another ... name the company

I think that we all can relate to this

Miscellaneous - Boat Race Efficiency Study

A Japanese company and an American company decided to have a canoe race on the Missouri River.  Both teams practiced long and hard to reach their peak performance before the race.
On the big day the Japanese won by a mile. Afterward, the American team became very discouraged and morally depressed. The American management decided the reason for the crushing defeat had to be found. A management team made up of senior management was formed to investigate and recommend appropriate action. Their conclusion was the Japanese had 8 people rowing and 1 person steering, while
the American team had 8 people steering and one person rowing.
So American management hired a consulting company and paid them an incredible amount of money. They advised that too many people were steering the boat, while not enough people were rowing. To prevent losing to the Japanese again next year, the rowing team's management structure was totally reorganized to 4 steering supervisors, 3 area steering superintendents and 1 assistant superintendent steering manager. They also implemented a new performance system that would give the 1 person rowing the boat greater incentive to work harder. It was called the Rowing Team Quality First Program, with meetings, dinners and free pens for the rower. We must give the rower the empowerment and enrichments
 through this quality program.
The next year the Japanese won by two miles. Humiliated, the
American management laid off the rower for poor performance,
halted development of a new canoe, sold the paddles, and canceled all capital investments for new equipment. Then they distributed the money saved as bonuses to the senior executives.

General Discussion Area / registrations
« on: 11 October 2008, 17:35:21 »
DVLA used to have a section where you could just put a registration in and it'd give you a brief description of the vehicle. It's changed now, in that you need to put the reg in AND the vehicle make.
Auto trader used to have a similar searc, but that doesn't have it any more.
If I have a reg number, does anyone know a site where youcan still get a breif description? Or is it against somebody's human rights now to give such info?
