Ok many will know my condensor was shagged, so I ordered the replacement parts from AutoVaux, the dryer is called the "Evaporator" on there system for future refernce.
Paid £107 for the condensor & £77 for the Dryer + Vat, Bargin when my orignal condensor quote was £230 + vat ... without the dryer! :o
So took the parts down to a local air-con guy, who fitted the parts for me for 30£ notes, did a good job, took him just over an hour to get the new parts in, he re-gassed it will oil as well, total cost 90£ notes.
Result the Aircon is fantasic! So powerfull it really blasts out super cold air, really impresive differnce.
We also took a look at the pollen filter (i did't know how to remove it before), his technical opinion was "thats ****ed m8"
He said that would cause problems it was in such a bad state, he said its go get a new one, don't put that in for now you should be ok for a day or so without one.
Driving back without the pollen filter... bugger me was the climate powerfull! We all know how hot it was today, driving around at miday I had it set at 22!! any lower and it was too cold! :o
Now the pollen filer was white on the edges but black & white in the middle, I remember seeing posts from "the other side" saying pre-facelift ones were white, facelift black? Mine was definelty white and gone black with crap.. so I need to replace it. Does anyone have a GM part number I can quote to some Vx Monkeys to get the correct pollen filter for the facelifts?
Thanks
Btw Jamie I can really reccommend that guy if your aircon packs up, I think I found my new mechanic :P

You could ring autoVaux, got mine from them recently, didn't cost a lot £5-£6 I think. Make sure when you talk to them that they know it's for the Omega. They managed to send me one for a Vectra, first time!

lol!! nice
Postage for it should only be about a quid i hope? Thing is i am at my grandparents at the moment, and am doing another 80 mile drive back on friday, not too keen on doing both runs without a pollen filter
-
The part no for the pollen filter is all models up until 1999 paper filters 93182438 and 2000 on models is 93165208 and they are carbon filters
-
I have some pollen filters here, both facelift and prefacelift, in my garage. Yours for TC price :)

Thanks, do you think driving another 80 miles back will do any harm to the heater matrix? Will be a total of 160 miles (mostly motorway) without a pollen filter?
Thanks andy for the part numbers

If I had a copy of tis(which I don't) I would think it may be one of these part nos
Filter, interior, ventilation 90510338
Filter, activated carbon, interior, ventilation 9196344/91158514
would think top one would be the one you need
-
Have you left for grandparents yet - I'm around all day tomorrow.
Can you put old one back in? Without it, chances are the auto recirc will turn on.
IIRC, prefacelift ones are about £5 - £6 + VAT, facelift are around double that.

Apparently its the Carbon ones that are better, filter out more of the rubbish.
-
Sorry my mistake, must be looking at the wrong filters :-[
-
The filter is there to protect you not the climate control/heater/air con
-
The carbon one is a requirement for facelift due to the more complex climate system. Either type can be used in prefacelift.

Yup already here! Left just after lunch today, was extremely nice with the improved climate on the motorway. I did't noticed the auto re-circ come on during driving?
I still have the old on in the boot, its just the air-con guy recommended not putting on on until you get a new one? :-/

Oh cool, then try this out guys... remove the pollen filter and see the differnce in the climate (mine was poor before so its a hell of differnce for me) but try it anyway, think you will be suprised

Still best to get a new one ASAP - because these filters get more than pollen - they also get Diesel smoke - that is nasty stuff (unless from a very large engine when we think it is acceptable - eg 16CSVT)

Tunnie - good to hear that your A/C is now OK. My condensor also needs changing. Where did you get your fitted? I would like to get the part from Autovaux to keep the cost down. My usual garage will not fit customer supplied parts without a hassle. In any case, he can't do any work until the start of August which is no good for me!
The sound of the system working again for £200 ish sounds good as vaux want £417!!!!
-
I believe tunnie got his fitted by a local garage here in Brackley, Northants. IIRC, they charged him £30 to fit the parts, and another £50 - £60 to fill system.

Yup
When I first went down there he quoted me £35 notes for the Condensor & Dryer fitted, when I dropped it off yesterday I said vac and gas it as well, which he did & put the oil in as well so was impressed. £90 in notes in the end, so I think thats a very good price for basically 2 hours labour and a full Air-Con Vac & Re-Gas.
I did ask for part numbers off AutoVaux so we can put it on a guide but they refused to give me one! :-/
Here is what I ordered:
* Condenser complete with evaporator (GM brand new) £230.63 + vat
So in the end including fitting total was about £360, my orgnial quote from another specalist was £420 without the dryer + vat! :o
Did your Vx quote include the Dryer (evaporator), and a full Vac & Regas?
As for fitting, I can only suggest looking around. I totaly forgot about that place near to me, it was only went I looked in the BT Business Directory for Air-Con Specalists his company was listed.

The best source of condenser with receiver dryer I have found is mixandfix on ebay, he has his own site (www.airconmedic.co.uk) and runs his own aircon buisness and will do a new condenser with receiver dryer for 165 delivered inc vat....which is very good.
Hes in Selby and offers a full range os services

Last time I looked mine was in need of changing.
looked more grey than white.
Are the part numbers for the pre-facelift or facelift only I need one for mine 97P omega.
-
AFAIK all the basic air-con parts, condensor, dryer & Orings are the same for both facelift and pre-facelift
-
All Omegas use the same condenser and receiver dryer.
The pollen filters are as follows:
Non carbon (pre-facelift) - 93182438 - £11.30+vat
Carbon (facelift but, can be retrofitted) - 93165208 - £14.20+vat
Note, the above prices are retail, much cheaper trade.
-
Cheers Mark for the part numbers.
My local Vx parts counter has just lately been charging me trade price.
Dont know why but seems a good thing.
Either way whether trade or retail im not too fussed.
-
If you get stuck then drop me a PM, they don't weigh much so postage would only be a quid or so and I get trade club price.

Cheers marks DTM shall pop into Vx on the way home from work.
I may take you up on that offer.

nice one fella glad you got it sorted ;)

Hi
Thanks for the replies.
I got a quote of £230 for the condensor with the receiver / dryer already fitted from Autovaux this morning. That, of course, is ex VAT which makes £270. Then there is the vac and regas / compressor oil to think about which is probably another 360.
However, the biggest problem is time which I do not have so have to go with the Vaux option I reckon. :(
However, whilst thinking about this, where abouts in Brackly is your air con place? It may well be worth me using the e-bay shop as recommended by Marks DTM and taking a drive up there to have it fitted and gassed. Do you have an address / phone number for them?
Assuming that the refrigerant has been lost is it plausable to remove and refit the condensor myself? The Hayes manual says that the main rad has to come out. Is this the case?

I did seriously consider removing the parts myself, but chickened out in the end. Tbh with aircon its something that has to be done by specalists and people who know what they are doing.
The guy in Brackley is quite good, but don't expect a speedy fit, he had mine most of the day :(
The company is:
Bird & Eagles
25, Manor Rd, Brackley, Northamptonshire NN13 6ED
Tel: 01280 703200
Mention that "a freind" brought there green Omega down a few days ago for the same job.. that should jog his memory. He should fit the parts for you for about £30 notes (mention me maybe get a discount)
Tbh he knows what he's doing so I let him gas it as well, although he put the wrong amount in to begin with, said "sorry m8 put the wrong amount in, i need to Vac it and bang some more in there pal ok?"
He's a typical mechianic guy, but very geniune. If you can afford the time to leave the car with him all day say 9-2 then he should have it all done for you for 90£ notes.
Did the Vaux dealer include the dryer replacent in their quote? You could always take the AutoVaux parts to Vx for fitment and have some spotty teenager fit them :P
-
It took me 4 hours to replace the condensor on a 2.0
-
and you know what your doing! You even put an LPG system on yourself!
Think it would have taken me several days!
-
Condenser removal is on my to do list for the tech section.....possibly next week.
-
LPG was easier than condenser too crammed
-
Cheers tunnie for the info. I will give them a call later today and see what they can do for me. TBH I feel the same as you regarding A/C. For example, I have no way of knowing if the system has lost all the refrigerant.
Will post the results. Thanks again.

Exactly he has the pressure gauge machines and other bits.
Good Luck :)
