Speeding

 ::)

Yep, I know, old enough to know better.  ::)  No excuses, guilty as charged. The only person I'm angry with is myself.  >:(

It was just before 10pm, we were on our way home from visiting our little grandson and deep in conversation and generally saying that life can be a bitch sometimes. Slowing down entering the 30mph zone when a figure dressed in black, with a bobble hat with police banding on steps in to the road waving a torch and beckoning me to pull over. He was holding a hand held speed gun. Other than to confirm my name and address I never said a word to him and just let him blabber on. I was given a ticket on the spot for 39mph in a 30mph zone. No course for me as I did one two years ago and clearly learnt nothing from it.  ::)
Points and a fine heading my way but compared to some things in life it fades in to insignificance.

Hardly "showing a presence", was he? That was more like entrapment.
I won't go into the old debate of safety versus revenue collection, but if they trul=y were intereted in "prevention rather than prosecution", which is their avowed prime directive, they would have posted the speed check clearly ahead of the greed gun.   :o

Ron.

I've even got it on my dash cam so I can watch it as a reality check if I ever find myself in the unlikely position of having more than zero respect for the people carrying out this task.   ;)
I only posted because it was the time of night that they were doing it that surprised me.

A good few years back now, a lad at work got 'done' for speeding on his way home from work after a 2 - 10 shift  :-X

Clearly milking the cash-cow, Andy,
If they are that desperate for cash, the offenses committed by cyclists could rake in at least £30 a pop if they could be bothered to take them to the cash points.....

But at least it really was over the limit. I got nicked for 34mph in a 30 zone a few years back.  >:(

Ron,

or mobile phone use. I was sat behind a car the other day, lights went to green ... it didn't .... I pipped, car moved off. Next set of lights same thing. When it did it for a 3rd time I pulled around it and moved into the considerable gap in front of it. I surmise he/she was on the phone as ALL windows were tinted & I couldn't see in. But in any queue of traffic I see loads on the phone, as soon as they stop, head goes down to look at the phone in their lap ... obviously more noticeable at night.

I watched a fella texting away on the M1 the other day .. two cars in front of a marked police car. Sometimes I wish I had an electronic sign board in the back I could use to send messages..

But then I'd probably get done for texting while driving ;D

so if you could see them with your untrained eye ...... why didn't someone else? Or more to the point, why didn't they do something about it?

I'm not a Police Officer but I do know that you have to have a certain level of training to stop vehicles on a 'fast road' so there may be a chance that they may not have had the relevant permit/training to stop the driver on a Motorway.
