I bought this car while back to drive when I get my impending knee replacement op. I have been driving it a few weeks and the engine light was coming on when starting so was clearing it each time and it was a dream to drive, sooo I thought I would be clever and change the cam shaft sensor cos thats the code I was getting P0300, bought one and fitted it and it would not start, put old sensor back and still nothing! It seems to have petrol on the plugs but doesn’t sound like it’s firing. The coil pack was not touched when I changed the sensor, frankly I am stumped! Any suggestions as to what I may have disturbed?

P0300 DTC is a missfire related to more than one cylinder, nothing to do with camshaft sensor.

For a no start i'd be looking at the crankshaft sensor but a 2.0 / 2.2 will usually start eventually even with a duff crank sensor.

I think it'd be worth reading the codes again before going any further.

Not on the 2.2.

Does the fuel pump run when you first turn the ignition on?

If yes, level the car and try starting it.

What is it on a cam shaft sprocket that the sensor reads, day off tomorrow so hope to sort this, fuel over half a tank

Yesterday I went through basics, it has fuel on plugs and has a spark, has voltage to new cam sensor, I have checked timing belt and the marks don’t seem to to align , but I cannot see how or why it could have jumped teeth

When the camshafts are by their marks the crank mark is not pointing straight down as I think it is supposed to , it points to 4 o clock ( how do I upload pictures?)

My conclusion so far ( will do a compression test when I find my tester) that the belt was loose and has jumped slightly and now I have some bent valves. The car is too good to scrap and nice to drive so I may tackle it myself or if I can find someone to do it pay them.
Does the haynes manual cover the 2.2 or has anyone seen a guide anywhere? I imagine it will be straightforward though

The 2.0 16v is essentially the same engine

If I remember right the mark on the crank pully should be about 4 o'clock theres a pointed marker that sticks out it should align with

The mark on the pulley, lines up with a cutout at the bottom of the crank shield.
You can just see it on here. It is a notch. The crank mark is about the same size, in width. On the picture I have just timed the engine up. And have fitted the locking tool into the cam sprockets.

This is the mark, that can be seen with the crank pulley still on. To do the timing belt, the pulley has to come off.

Just checked the mark on the actual cam belt pulley should be straight down as addy posted but there's another mark on the aux belt pulley that should line up with the pointer.

Hi Veralum

For uploading pictures to here and other boards. I use this site, https://postimages.org/ it is free and you can drag and drop pictures. I set the image size to message boards, via the do not resize image option. Once you have uploaded your photo, click on it. Then press the SHARE button , it will open a load of different links. The one you want is the direct link option. Press the button next to it that looks like a clipboard, this will copy the link. On the OOF forum, when you write your message. And want to add a photo, you select the

button (it looks like a picture, below the Capital B button on the left. Then paste the link of your photo in between the img and /img. You can check if photo has loaded by doing a preview first.
