Turns out that it wasn't painted, but some sort of coating. Oops.

But bent, touched up, fitted to the car  :y

As STEMO says, a small cargo net for the sides of the boot.  Only the manufacturer only makes them for the nearside, and she wanted one on the offside as well.

It’s the sort of stuff that gets added as an 'improvement' over the previous model/lower specs.
