Difficult to start keeps stalling
« on: 24 January 2023, 21:33:44 »

Hi all I have an issue with my omega 3.2 elite, when I try to start its very difficult to start and when it does idle is very irratic and keeps stalling, when I'm trying to rev it either wont rev and stall or will rev very lumpy and then stall. When at operating temputure (cooling fans have cut in) it will idle and drive but only with very light throttle.
I have relaced both coil packs (bosch)and plugs the both tenp sensors and maf.
Any ideas guys

If you unplug the MAF, does it run properly?

The misfire is a separate issue, with various causes... We can come back to them after the MAF.

No differance I changed the maf as one of the fault codes said maf and I changed both coil packs because of the misfire the engine management light no longer comes on and no  fault codes are showing now.

I didn't ask if you swapped the MAF..unplugging it proves the fault swapping it may have cured it but may not have been necessary.

Likewise replacing the coil packs fixes the symptoms but not the cause. Water and oil contamination being the usual suspects.

No unplugging the maf makes no differance there was no oil or water contamination

Then the MAF isn't faulty.

Any evidence of corrosion or splitting on the underside of the coil packs?

just to eliminate any fuel supply issues, faulty pump, blocked filter, regulator fault. it is worth checking the fuel pressure at the rail valve.
youre looking for around 3 bar.

Easier to start with the ignition, the old phrase of every carburettor fault is electrical is still true. The only faulty filters I've seen have been the ones that rotted through, and regulators are more of a possible fault than a likely one.

And a failing fuel pump will start the car but may not hold any throttle for long... Idle would be fine.

A failed pump simply won't start the car.

Then there's the obvious question of fuel quantity...

If there's less than a quarter on the gauge and the car isn't precisely level, assume it has run out and put at least 10 litres into it.

if only for elimination purposes to be sure fuel pressure is there.
i have seen just one case in all these years of a blocked fuel filter. on a 89 carlton.syptoms were lack of power in anything but light throttle, missing when revved, hard to start from cold, rough idle until warm.
but as said. eveything needs to be checked anyway.

as we all know its usually something simple in the end.
