Just watched a report on the BBC news , sounds awful conditions to work in I feel for them & shop workers working for a pittance if anyone deserves pay rises they do. As for public service employees been there done that and done okay from it,  they need to realise how well off they are in comparison, and the lazy bastards need to stop whining.

Three things.

Firstly, they chose to work there.
Secondly, it's a shit company to work for.*
Thirdly, all striking will do is make things more expensive, which is presumably what they are striking for.

*Most multinationals are unless you are in management. DHL, for example, don't list anything below FLM level in their structure.

Unless you are a fully signed up drone, eventually you will be actively drummed out of companies like Amazon. Striking is a waste of time, so you may as well look for another job.

You would like to think that they had an understanding and appreciation of what just in time processing actually means. If not when they applied, certainly by the end of their induction process...

Absolutely, subject to the above.

But striking is unpaid and the company will probably employ agency staff for as long as they need to to maintain production rates. And at whatever cost just to be bloody minded. If the pay is that bad, (it isn't) then they could all sign up with which ever agencies Amazon use and get a pay rise that way.

If conditions are that bad (in the context of working in a semi automated production) then there are plenty of jobs paying similar money.

Any raise they could win will be at the expense of any other benefits that employees might receive over and above the legal minimum.

But, in the real world, you're expected to take toilet and smoking breaks during your breaks, which may or may not be paid... Certainly paid 15 minute comfort breaks and unpaid 30 minute meal breaks are pretty much standard.

So conditions aren't unreasonable, they're actually competitive, which leaves pay... Again, for a warehouse job in the Midlands £10.50 is competitive. £22k ish...
