Now on the drive and awaiting tax and insurance...

I know, I know.  It's not the same.

Cars for Sale & wanted / 3.0 Elite Saloon Auto no MOT
« on: 23 December 2013, 11:43:53 »
Hi Guys

Having got the Omega to 97k miles and with several warnings on the MID (some of them lies!) I have decided not to put it in for MOT.  An XF beckons.

An enthusiast could get it running perfectly I'm sure, as it was doing 650 miles a week until last Friday.  2 front tyres and some attention to an epileptic o/s Xenon unit would probably get it an MOT but I would get rid of it "for spares".

For information:
Year 2000 on a "V"
3.0 V6 petrol
Automatic
Elite
Ural Mountain (moody green to you)
External rust over rear arches untreated.
Rear bumper split, but spare (rubbed down but not painted) available
Parking sensors
Currently taxed until March but I expect to cash that in imminently.
This is what it looked like 5 minutes ago with 1 week's road crud on it.

Offers?

Would need picking-up from East London/SW Essex

Oh!  And Happy Christmas to all who still believe in it :y

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Parking sensors
« on: 21 June 2011, 09:44:42 »
So there are two types of factory-fitted sensors?

with a 4-pin connector and a large hole in the bumper, and

with a three-pin connector and small hole.

Are these units interchangeable does anyone know?  Clearly connectors and holes need sorting but do they work with the same parking ECU? and what wiring patching is required?

The relevance is that I have a pre-loved replacement bumper with the diddy ones and the old bumper (with one mullered sensor) with the whoppers.

Any relevant advice (apart from learning to park properly ;D ;D) would be appreciated.

Omega General Help / Air con died
« on: 03 February 2010, 15:59:28 »
I had the air con re-gassed last summer and recently the clutch has disengaged and the fans don't turn any more.  I was under the bonnet when it stopped so no works caused it.

Any pointers to where to start?  Heated rear window works so F14 sounds OK.

Omega General Help / Aircon and electrics
« on: 02 June 2009, 14:20:37 »
Just had the aircon re-gassed and was very impressed with Andrew Young in Loughton Essex.  He re-gassed my Senator years ago and also replaced the crank sensor on the Omega a few less years ago (before I found OOF).
In case anyone around this area (SW Essex/E London) needs a pointer, I recommend him.

He also gave me a few tips on how to fix ABS ECUs which I'll look into and report back on as I have a faulty spare kicking around.
Hopefully going back with the Missus' Focus for re-gassing tomorrow.

Omega General Help / Screenwash pump part No
« on: 27 May 2009, 16:29:35 »
Hi all

I split the exit nozzle on the main screenwash pump while removing it.  Tried Araldite and it's not up to the job so I need a new one.
Silly thing is the PN on it is 090586631 which doesn't get many google responses (like Mexico!?).  Plenty of others look similar on fleabay.

Anyone know the correct one for a 2000 Auto 3.0 Elite please?

Omega General Help / V6 breather pipes
« on: 26 February 2009, 14:52:26 »
Re-assembled the intake etc. after a prolonged dismantle (that inadvisedly included a 9-day holiday) and I find I have 5 black pipes at the rear of the plenum, not 4!
The suspected rogue is plastic rather than rubber and I can't locate it on any pictures I've found on this site or in Haynes.  Can't see a vacant stub to hook it onto either.  It disappears down the back of the engine, not to the breather system.

Any suggestions (helpful) please?

[Sheepish look] :D

Omega General Help / camshaft locking kit recommendation
« on: 16 February 2009, 15:36:42 »
The Omega's been in bits for a couple of weeks now (holiday in the middle :) ) and I'm close to replacing the cambelt and tensioners.
Any views on locking kits to avoid buying, or best value for money?
Or anyone near Essex/E London got one for a beer or two? Please?

Cheers

Omega General Help / V6 oil cooler removal
« on: 27 January 2009, 11:50:40 »
I'm trying to get to the oil cooler pipes by the filter to slacken them off.  I have the cartridge type oil filter and it's in the way.  Does it come off?  If so, how?
Haynes helpfully shows a canister type that doesn't obstruct access. Please?

Omega General Help / Getting in to vehicle
« on: 26 January 2009, 14:06:07 »
Pulled the plenum etc. on Saturday to do the coolant leak so removed the battery.
Now can't get into the car as the key in the driver's door goes both ways without successfully operating the mechanism.  AFAIK there's no other way in unless I can find a site to patch 12volts onto from outside.
Any ideas?

Newbie Welcome Area / Newbie intro
« on: 16 January 2009, 11:42:49 »
Hi All

Mainly joined to pick up on joint expertise - may be able to contribute(?)

I have a 2000 Elite 3.0 that is starting to fall apart electrically which is a pity as it's only done 70k (miles).
Sunroof moody, one wheel sensor pulses intermittent (boy does that affect a lot of systems), front tracking out, coolant leak in the 'V', coolant level sensor duff (bad combination those last two), brake pad sensors prematurely worn down (I guess they all do that unless we keep grinding the disc periphery down), climate control sometimes goes arctic, seat position store randomly gets 'lost'...
Otherwise a really nice car.
Must break off now and go and fix some of it!
Cheers :)

Hi guys

Time has come to try and replace the back bumper, ideally the metalwork behind (in front of) it, and a new parking sensor or two.

Ideal colour is Z382 but something dark in good nick would be useful.

Anyone got something close?

General Car Chat / "Thank you" from the missus
« on: 17 November 2010, 10:10:23 »
I knew that would get attention! ;D ;D ;D ;D

No, honestly,  her Focus has been driving like a pig for months now with a low-revs mis-fire that had good days and bad.  It had had new plugs and coil pack but there was no ryme or reason to it.

Anyway, she's got a trip to Derby 5-up soon so I gave it a service and risked new plug leads and yet another coil pack.  It was the coil-pack!  It's never going to drive well but the improvement is stunning.  How it knew you were entering a roundabout so's it could mis-fire I will never know!

Anyway.  Lesson to be learned.  Don't buy the "cheaper" option coil-pack.

General Car Chat / Battery chargers
« on: 02 February 2010, 11:14:51 »
I haven't been using the Omega much as I'm out of work at present, so the battery gets run down.  It went all the way in the cold spell and so I stuck it on my (Oxford) charger that is supposedly clever.  Well, it registered 3.1 volts and clearly decided it was not a battery so it would not touch it!  I had to thump and cajole my 'traditional' (30-year-old) charger back into life just to get anything into the battery.  Even then the current crawled up from 0.75 amp to 3.5 over about 5 minutes.  Current has now steadily declined to 1 amp over 24hours so I suspect it is back to normal.

Just to see what the Oxford thinks now, I've put it back on that.  It seems to be idling at 13 volts which is good.

BTW this is a VX battery with the green indicator built-in but now shows green even though it's 7 years old.

I'm glad I didn't trust the new-fangled thing and throw out the battery. :)

No it's not a Top Gear project!

Click here to see the Capstone CMT-380 Hybrid Supercar

Pretty impressive I'd say.
