auto locking
« on: 14 November 2012, 11:53:49 »

Is there such a thing as an after market auto door lock system like there is on my Merc & SWMBO's Smart? ie when you get to ??mph, the car locks itself.  :-\ My daughter's new job takes to one of the country's least desirable places ....... Moss Side  :o and although she says that she always locks her car when she's driving, if it was possible to fit such a thing, she'd not have to remember to lock it.

Speed dependent is a little more challenging (requires a charge pump and transistor) but basic auto lock is covered here:

Clifford alarms have their 'BlackJack' system, I think it's called - I imagine Toad et al have similar.. it aims to stop car jacking which is, I guess, what you're worried about.. they had features like auto door lock, code input required before start etc

My daughters Megane has this too right enough; pretty good idea, especially for female drivers.

On the Vectra you could configure this by a combination of presses of the remote while in the ignition. Maybe the Omega has a similar function?

I think you'll find the idea is that the car is locked, and remains locked, until the driver makes a positive decision to open the doors, so that at junctions, crossings, traffic lights etc etc when the car stops Mr Scrote cannot just open the door and leap in.

Most USA hire cars have had this for some time .. takes a bit of getting used to.. but can be very useful in some parts of town .... :(

It's annoying pulling the door Handel twice to get out though. No?

Minor concern though.

On both the Merc & SWMBO's Smart, you just pull the handle as normal  ;)
