Title: Oxford meet no.3
Post by: joshwyatt on 23 June 2010, 16:47:36
It seems about the right time for the next Oxford meet.
Any ideas of when and where are welcomed  :y

The two previous meets have been excellent, but this time extending it outside the 'Oxford' area may be best to attract new attendees.

As said, any ideas or suggestions would be good, if you give us a location idea we can then perhaps work out the date.

Will this be a day Meet Josh?

I will try to come when you get the dates sorted :y

Quite possibly a day meet Daz. The previous meets started around 2pm and finished in the evening.
It would be nice to start a bit earlier, and make a day of it.
If I set a potential date of Saturday the 3rd of July, a week this Saturday...hopefully that may give enough warning for anyone who wants to come along.
I'm sure the regular Oxford meets members will make it, but to anyone else who thought about it, you're more than welcome to come along and you can suggest a location if you want. Everyone's welcome  :y

If the date suggested doesn't fit with people, let us know and we'll find a date suitable for us all.

I can't do most of July full stop I'm afraid... But go with the majority as it's unlikely I'll be able to justify a day trip down that way for a while :'(

Wasnt there a mention of using ashridge common?, as im sure the herts oofers would attend as well if you want, unless of course its too far from oxford, just thought id throw that into the ring as a suggestion. :y

Well done Josh you have given a date when I should be on duty BUT this time I have booked leave so I will be there as long as it's not to far the other side of Oxford ie not to far from Swindon (40-50 miles fine) and you can see the Plod I got off Pete.

I'm happy to do the barbie :y :y
And do think Ashridge is a great venue for meets due to loads of unristricted space
Could make it a joint Oxford / OOF! S.E. Ashridge meet ??
Unfortunately I can't make the 2nd of July A Saturday near the end of July would be best for me  :y

make it mid to late july, i will bring the campervan once its done, use that for the cooking and a bbq, and bring my new elite along no one knows about, fresh out the body shop in "mint" condition.
if the date approaches and i havent added a message to here, someone call or text me, i will make sure i dont miss it!

also, can put the aircon gas and tools in the van if anyone wants cut price cooling top ups.
Title: Re: Oxford meet no.3
Post by: feeutfo on 03 July 2010, 00:27:59
Later in July would suit better personally....

Maybe some would miss out twice in a row if it was at Ashridge again, alternate venues sounds fairer? Makes little odds to me though. :-/

Is Ashridge not the site of the last Oxford meet. Just seems every time I get the time to go to a meet it's too far away but when it was at Oxford was OK for me that's all. I am not saying that Ashridge was not a good place or a good meet just a bit far for me  :'(

I'd forgotten about this thread actually  :-[
The 17th should be fine for me, I shall check, I'm pretty sure I'm going to Wales on the 18th...so should be fine.
The previous location was Cutteslowe park, and I'm pretty sure Chris, the trains will be running  ;D
I'll also bring something not on trade plates, so I can leave the vehicle.
Kai, Nitro (Ken), Mrjimbo, Joff, Radar...are you all available on the 17th? Hopefully, as it'd be good to see you all again...apologies to whoever I've forgotten.

I've had a bbq there before  ::) And there were plenty of park officials about.

;D thanks TB for volunteering me. There's McDonald's, Dominos, and as you said a BK. I'll happily take orders and go and get some food.

Or, alternatively I could speak to the pub manager opposite and see if he'll make stuff to go. We've got plenty of paper plates, only a 5 minute drive from the pub to the park, the food would still be hot by the time I got back.

How on earth are we supposed to drink beer with them !! ::) ::) :-X :-X

Looks like a good reason for a poll

1) Illegal BBQ
2) Maccyd's(I think we know where TB stands there !)
3)BK
4)Dominos
5)Pub grub takeaway

Note to TB don't bother with the sizzler...... I had one of them and couldn't taste anything for about a week after  :o :o :-[ Not to mention the ice cube botty comforters  :D :D :-X

I think postcode is posted earlier in thread by Kai :y

Best you pack your netbook, complete with gas software - mine was really holding back earlier when I gave it a bootload on the M40.  Also, getting that lag on changes....

Doubt we're going to make it :'( :'(

Even tried bribing SWMBO with a nice hotel tomorrow night but she wants a weekend at home. Just as well really... We were away last weekend and have a wedding in Kensington we need a hotel for in 2 weeks (that wont be cheap!) ::)

May all change again on Saturday but doubt it :(

I'd offer a bed, but I can't even open the door to the spare room, let alone tidy it out enough  :-[.  Won't have time to tidy it up enough, as out tomorrow night :-[

Thanks. TBH, it wasn't the cost that put her off as it was the same one we stayed in last time we were over there and for £49 with a spa we couldn't go wrong. She's just fed up with always being away... I'll work on it again tomorrow ::) ::)

Looks like i will be able to make it (not sure about the mrs. or little'un).

I plan to service the car tomorrow morning but would anyone be able to help me change the spark plugs and fuel filter as I haven't done these before and don't have the tools for it i'm afraid.

Also i have a clatter sometimes on startup and i'm not sure if it related to a loose timing belt - is this easy to check/correct?

If someone brings some tools we can look at most of that.  I don't own a 4 pot locking wedge, but guess we can pop the cover and look by eye that the tensioner looks OK.

If its OK when warm, I'd probably initially look at manifold/gasket or lifters (neither of which I'm happy doing in a carpark!)

Thanks for that. :y At the last meet you suggested to grease the aux belt tensioner which i did, but i'm presuming you are referring to other tensioners. I know the front 2 studs on the manifold are snapped and I'm hoping Lee (Wellung) can look at this soon. This noise is different from the metallic noise caused by snapped studs. I have been doing short oil changes recently and will do one tomorrow morning before the meet. I hear what you say about some jobs not being suitable in a car park.  I don't have the confidence to open the sump and check the oil pickup pipe which was another thing i thought it might be. I will bring whatever tools i can get my hands on but if someone else could oblige it would be great :y

Does anyone know if an Omega front bumper will fit in my saloon if I put the rear seats down??  Otherwise I may have to bring the people carrier or the 4 wheel drive!

I've been a regional organiser for the Mercedes Owners Club and a member of the Lexus owners club and I must say today the turn out was better than both of the above clubs.

Next time I go trying to keep up with RobseyMV6's Monaro (and fail completely and utterly miserably), I'm going to fit a fuel scoop on the front of mine ;D.

Although a 2 door coupe is not really ideal for me, it allowed me to dream :y.  Amazed how much room there was under the bonnet, despite the big 6l V8.

Good to meet everyone, old faces and new faces, and apologies I didn't get round everyone, as I was busy with getting mine calibrated again.

And to make a great day even better, a couple of us disappeared off for a curry night in deepest Brackley.  It must have been hot yesterday, as that first Cobra hit a certain spot :y

I was the one with the black 3.2 elite estate and it was my first meet so forgive my ignorance as it was all new to me. I think Chrisgixer was the only one who knew who I was.
It was a good afternoon with a friendly bunch of guys all willing to help out. Had to shoot off early as we had plans for the evening but was glad I went along to see you all. :y :y

Best Regards
Alan
Dont worry yz, it can be a bit daunting first time at one of these meets. Hopefully see you at the next one. Very nice and tidy car you have there. :y

I tried as hard as I could to keep up in my 3.0l auto, and failed utterly miserably.  My 3.0l auto (on petrol) probably just has the legs on a std 3.2 auto, as proved Saturday evening, much to Tunnie's parents surprise when 3 Omegas went tearing past them as they were tottling along the road ::)

Hold up, I didn't know we where "cheating on petrol" to win the race to the curry house? Plus I had a "fading" Mr Wood in the way.

Er, did I say race? Er no could'nt have been a race, only The Boy knew the way.

At one point - around the area where Mrs chrisgixer likes to go sideways - I did have about a mile on petrol. That was when a brakeless Mr Wood was probably getting in your way ;D

Whatever, demand a re count.

Seriously though, would be interesting to run some side by side tests one day. Although I'm not playing with you on the brakes....or in the corners probably.  :(

When you played with me, on that downhill bit before we turned left, I was flat on the floor on gas.

At high revs, floored, I reckon I am hitting limits of multivalve, although the LPG ECU isn't switching back. Feels more willing on petrol under those conditions.

Not much difference in the kit then. Nothing in it up the hill prior to the downhill bit where I had to allow for your braking and knowing the way, I was expecting 2nd exit, not first.

The first OOF meet was Santa Pod.  The little I remember about it was that it was bloody cold.  Even with my big, heavy beer coat on.

Bruntingthorpe would be more suitable IMO. Sadly a bit too costy iirc.

S pod/Avon park cheep enough, but a little short and no corners.
