This is an ongoing problem with the clit and Renault refuse to recognize it say it the owner at fault for not maintaining the bonnet catch. Watchdog has been covering the problem for a few months now.

I think the official Renault advice is to cut a 6" by 12" hole in the bonnet just incase ;D

No no no. I thought you said you saw watchdog. The OFFICIAL line is to weld the bonnet shut ;D

I was, and it did... not with a clit though, some 30 years ago with a small German car called NSU Prinz (I don't think it sold in the UK - NSU later became part of Audi). Quite scary, the thing to do is slow down gradually as to not surprise the driver behind you, and pray that there is nothing on the road ahead...

Sure I've seen an NSU prinz, didn't they have some kind of variomatic gearbox that was belt driven?

I think that was DAF, which were later bought by Volvo...

NSU initially did 3 cars, the Prinz 4 with a two-stroke 600cc air-cooled rear engine, the 1000 with a four-cylinder 1000cc air-cooled rear engine, and the 'flagship' 1200 - they then came up with the revolutionary RO-80 - Luxury saloon with Wankel engine and claimed top speed of 180kmh, quite an achievement in the mid-seventies - however the Wankel engines kept failing and NSU went bust due to overwhelming warranty claims, and were then taken over by Audi.

This happened to me once, in my Hillman Avenger (remember them?). Its the sudden loss of vision that is most upsetting, the mind arriving at the question "where's the bl**dy Road gone?", and taking appropriate action. Fortunately I was on a straight road at the time, so I just slowed down. That was the time when a 1250cc Avenger was quite good. I had to weld on new sills, and I ordered them from the Hillman agents, so they were genuine parts. When they arrived, one was 2" shorter thatn the other!.

If you ever get chance to have a good look at a Renaut bonnet catch do....its a right flimsy naff piece of poo made out of a thin bit of steel with a single fold in it......think it must have been designed by the placement student....
