Omega General Help / Re: Engine replacement advice please
« on: 09 August 2021, 22:58:58 »
Thank you both for the advice - the Monaro option I would have loved, but, the cost and labour time is preclusion. Will investigate the BMW option - probably more in keeping with reality and I suppose in keeping with the fact that the drive train was BMW in the first place.
Thanks once again

Omega General Help / Engine replacement advice please
« on: 09 July 2021, 21:35:40 »
I have a W reg estate that had the 2.5D engine. The engine has had catastrophic internal damage following oil loss or burn issue. I had always wondered about installing a V8. My understanding was that the engine bay could accommodate as the US version was originally planned around this. Car currently at professional garage belonging to a friend who is able to help with the work, but, would need a plan.
1. Has anyone in the UK attempted this?
2. If so was it accepted by the DVLA?
3. Was there a need to upgrade the diff?
4. Is this a really stupid/dreamer idea and best to replace like for like?

Sorry for the left field questions - thanks in advance for reading.

Got in car at 6am drove to work. Got back in car at 19:30 and drove home.
Hoping to do some disassembly on the project car on the weekend.

Looks like the next US president will be either

Bernie Sanders age 78
Joe Biden age 77
Donald Trump age 73.

Surely the US president should be a 'big swinging dick' rather than a choice between 3 'limp dicks'... :)

Joking aside, older age is associated with poorer outcomes in relation to Coronavirus. Any country   with many older senior leaders should, arguably, consider this risk.

The Spanish flu 18/19 killed more people than the 4 years of fighting.
Part of the theories around the spread and high mortality rates for the Spanish flu was that the population of Europe were in poor health/nourishment following 4 years of war and so were not in a good place to handle the virus.

Isn't Costco like bookers cash and carry ?
so shops , clubs, pubs etc go to buy bulk because they need bulk to supply to customers

NHS staff could join with proof of ID. They also did tyres and used to get the Omega tyres there as it was cheaper than most of the other drop in and wait places for that size tyre. The problem with the bulk buy food is that you end up with too much. In the end I let my membership lapse.

Thanks - sounds like a viable option. Population density near me is far less than the Midlands and Home Counties so we always seem to have a limited market.

I guess it makes economical sense - just reduces variety.

On MOPAR, have you seen the details about the 440 super bird bought and adapted by the US environmental agency to measure the environmental impact of planes. Had a host of monitoring equipment added.
This beeper was fast enough to chase planes down a runway!

Re the golf R - it’s the 310BHP and a fantastic car.
5 door I’m afraid - children and car seats in and out so 5 doors was essential.
Thought about the estate at one point - but didn’t need the extra boot space.

I am very sorry to hear about all your posts. We lost someone in the family a few years ago - and we had not seen it coming.
I think that suicide reporting is more common now, whilst in the past the taboo around it was more likely to result in Coroners verdicts which did not state suicide. So I guess it means that the stigma is reducing and the conversation is being had.

So a positive experience - thanks for that.
Out of interest was it all local?
My hope was that the FB route would be motel likely to keep things local. Most of the BS I have had in the last were from London and Birmingham based individuals.

Sorry - late to this post.
Pre Omega - Austin metro, Mark 4 escort, Mark 5 escort.
The Omega was Sorn in 2014.
Then had a 52 plate golf TDI
Last month got a 67 Golf R.

The Omega was the most comfortable. The Golf R by far the highest BHP.

Big car 3 kids - my wife and I bought a 2013 Volvo XC90. It is a 2.4 diesel. But, would highly recommend. My dream car when 17 was an Rs turbo so Volvos were never on the list - until unexpected third child and needing a vehicle to fit 3 car seats. The XC90 is comfortable, ours is auto and easy to drive. It is the most comfortable car I have ever owned. Except for the armchair seats of the Omega estate of course! Would highly recommend the XC90 and far less conspicuous than e.g. an X5.

It’s a shame that Aus Ford don’t still race the Aus Falcons. As Australia has its own V8 Ford Muscle car - with Bathurst heritage - why not continue to race them.
Nothing against Mustangs as am a massive fan of Mustangs and Falcons.
